Problems reading fault codes with different readers on both cars

I have an s6, and a s2 The s6 has problems as in another thread. However my problem is pulling the codes on both cars. Historically this has always been the case.
Today I tried the s6 with vagcom lite on my computer. Would not read the codes .
I then tried a maxiscan hand held devise on both cars. It would not connect on both cars.
Same thing with a Vgate hand held scanner, again on both cars it would not work.
the ignition was turned on after plugging in each devise. I have know idea why this is as I was very careful to plug the connectors in the right way round. the s6 has a black, and a white connector under the bonnet. The s2 is a 3b , and has a blue, a brown ,and a black connector, I used the black and the brown. So what am I doing wrong hear. Is it me or could it be a fluke problem with both cars. I did manage to get two codes out of the s6 the other day for the first time ever, but nothing since. With both cars not running right I need to sort something soon. Audi are no help when you phone them.
They simply say, an s2 sir, no sir, we don't sell those sir, never heard of one of one Sir.
Surly you mean an A1 sir.

Have you tried blinking out the codes on the UrS4 as I suggested before? All you need is a paper clip and paper and pencil.

You can even use the same black and white ports and jump them and use the throttle switch to check your engine devices:

Or purchase these and use them to pull the codes:

If you are using cloned interface, my advice is to charge the battery on the car. They are very sensitive to car voltage. BTDT

Worth checking the fuse too (21 i think), i fought for ages with a car once only to find the fuse for the diag circuit was blown. Also make sure any immobilisers/alarms are fully disarmed first in case they are cutting the power.

For a C4 UrS, the fuse in question is S19.

The battery was fully charged when I tried to pull the codes. the two hand held devises are on loan from a friend and known to work, Just not on my cars. Vagcome lite that I downloaded and the leads which are new did read the codes on the s6 the other day.
I am trying to read them again to see if they have come back.
Fuses are a possibility so I will check them. fuse 19 for the s6 ,and 21 for the s2 right.
other than that the short lead with the black and white connectors is the one I used on every attempt. it is new and worked the first time. I only used the larger blue lead with vagcom and the red light works . is it possible I wonder could there be something wrong with the black and white lead.it looks fine. when I used it on both hand held devises it powered them up ok ,they just failed half way through loading

You need to use the black and white connectors, the black is the power connection, the white is the data connection. No idea what the blue one is for as i've never used it.

Is the ecu stock and no one have messed in it's curve fingers? Had similar problem with chipped motronic.

Also, check continuity in white connector to ecu plug.

This is on both cars the s2 is full rs2, and mapped by prj. The s6 is standard. Today I will try and blink the codes, but on other occasions this has also failed .

Could well be the 2 x 2 adapter, you can easily buzz it out with a meter, I found one time that I had one of the plugs on backwards, the 2 pin plugs on the cheap leads are quite rubbery and can be fitted the wrong way round..

I used another connector and it worked.Cleared the codes, and ran it for a while and the only codes that came up where 00544.the two front injectors I have a feeling the problem is fuel pressure issue after changing the pump. I have a new filter to fit and we will go from there. The misfire from the front injectors only happened after the initial bad starting. So am I right in thinking a fuel issue could cause these symptoms.

Sorry Dave well spotted That is the code I pulled from my s2 Which is yet another problem I have. The s6 is not firing on the front injectors as I mentioned in my previous post. I am currently waiting on a replacement cable so I can confirm the fault code.

Changed the fuel filter today. A little bit of brown looking fluid came out after I took it of the car, but it did not feel extra heavy or anything.
After a few attempts to start it, with no success. I made an attempt to bleed any air out by slackening the out going union. It was full of fuel and it did not appear to have any air in it. After tightening the union the car started, eventually on all cylinders. Then after a sort while started to run on four again. It really does seem like a fuel pressure. issue, but the issue is definitely after the filter, as I was amazed at the way it spurted out when I slackened the union. So I am thinking FPR. Is this a possibility. Or should I be looking for some other issue.
