I'm officially waiting to hear if my new car has been written off before delving into and remedial action on the S2 but my mind does tend to drift and think about these things...
I've definitely got boost but there's no longer that kick you get at about 2500-3000 rpm, is that indicative of a boost leak somewhere? What steps can I take to identify it?

Yes. The first step would have been to search the forum archives, "Any Date" and "boost leak testing". That should have found you this (and others):
You need to give it to someone who can do a boost leak test or get the kit and do it yourself, I chased boost leaks for 18 months trying to avoid using the test kitDo the test, you will be shocked where leaks can occur. Behind jubilee clips is a good one to try find without the test kit
Thanks fellas, it's gone on the back burner again as I had to abandon the S2 at work today - as you said David in your thread 'things that will fail on your AAN/ABY/ADU' (I can't remember the exact name) when your cam position sensor is dying you are on borrowed time and I think I've used all mine up!
