It also depends on the rpm the torque is standing, afaik. The earlier the torque is, the more is it dangerous. So maybe 600nm at 5000 rpm may work, but 500nm at 2500rpm can bend them. Also important: good ignition system. The more torque ión the rods, the more accurate ignition has to work.

Good point there,as 3B is well known for potential problems due to ignition system. So i would totally agree for long engine life ignition system needs to be spot on.Makes sense because if it's not there will be an in balance causing possible nasties.96 URS6 plus speck saloon

I'm at peak torque around 4300 to 4500 rpm.
Also agree on the coils , I am running a 1.8t setup and it eliminated all my hesitation issuesComment

Your coils get rid of all the problems but i prefer Original coils with the alloy cover just don't like the £800+ price from audi.

I can say that 500 Nm is safe over 3500 rpm. 550 Nm could be also but in 4500 rpm range and up.AKmotorsport.net - Manufacturing Motorsport parts that do the job. | Audi S2 on Facebook | Best way of reaching me is sending email to albert@akmotorsport.netComment

there is no set number. it all depends on condition and tuning. you could bend a rod or snap a bolt in a rod. you could do a wrist pin in. thats age and different lifes of engines
i went for rods when i was going 400hp for me 400 is the number. on the 4 pots it used to be around 350. so 400 is on the safe side imo but better to be safe. at leasst it all gets a refresh then shells etc. i wanted to rev with boost alittle higher. boost on syock turbos is over by 5500 really imo
prep the entire system to be a balanced setup. make sure you got good fueling is easier. fit a proper pump aby pump for me was at its limit at 320hp.
i never bent a rod or did a piston in. on the stock engine with stock ic and stock block mine started to feel as if it was running out of puff, asthmatic feeling at 1.4-1.5 bar on the sc61 turbo.7a cams, ic and inlet sorted that. high torque faster spoolers have more change of doing the damage i feel, at lower rpm.Comment

That looks
but i have seen that in your thread but i cannot remember why it happened.I know you love this turbo so what are your thoughts.Do you think this Volvo turbo is going to cause bent rods on a standard engine or indeed a hole in the block.

It is not a turbo that bends rods. It's in most cases the mapper. And in some cases the owner that is too lazy or to mean to look for his motor's condition.
Hole in the block imo is not too much torque. That brutal hit seems to be wrong ignition timing, or other mechanical problems.Comment

this happened to my RR one year ago.
Pics made few days ago, after pulling out the head from the motorblock.
After 160'000 km full stock, fitted K26, Wagner EM, dekat, bnpipes, Ultimot chip stage1.
At 160'250 km, on highway, downshift to 4 gear, full throttle, 5 seconds and...Attached Files- IMG_3580.jpg (277.1 KB, 38 views)

One question: which head gasket is this?
Is it the metal gasket now available? Or is it the OEM gasket with the RR born with?sigpicComment

Because a "friend" italian owner of Urquattro RR did the same on his, and I was not used to turbo tuning at that time, so I simply asked him what could be done. And I did the same.
Don't know why he's still running. Maybe because he dropped the stiffness of wastegate spring.sigpicComment
