Is there such a thing as a universal one that will fit 3B/ABY/AAN/ADU??
If so I can put a price on them, I might be able to do them cheaper if I can make them myself.sigpic

Normally use Safari on Apple, but used Chrome as suggested and it translated each page when you tell it to do so, some pages better than others, but anyway bought the VAG 3256 tool using the fourth link in your post.
Thanks very much for your help. Much appreciated.

As it happens, I just received a proper VAG3256 (made by Matra) from a trustworthy supplier in Germany. I cannot see how it fits on ABY with aircon... There is no way that the bolt will engage with the mounting point for the snub bracket. Also the 'C' shaped section that engages with the pulley is nothing like deep enough to lock with anymore than a quarter of the lug in the pulley.
My theory is that the 3256 tool is not suited to AAN/ABY/ADU with the aircon pulley. Even if everything did align properly on the bracket there is only 5-6 threads of the lock bolt which doesn't seem enough to hold that thing when the big swing bar is applied - especially for the unlock moment.
IMHO - the 2084 tool is superior as it wraps around the snub mount with just the rubber removed.
The last time I removed the pulley was with a borrowed 2084 tool (modified with bigger lugs welded to the 'C' shape) and it was great... so much for me wanting to do the right thing and get the alleged correct tool.
All that said - maybe I am being a dumbass and missing some obvious 'operator error'... I will post some pics of the problem.Paul Nugent

3256 is for C4 chassis only. The service manual also mentions only 3256 for AAN, it locks the pulley and screws into the block. The 2084 is for Coupe/B4 chassis and should be blocking when fit over the front engine mount (snub). As it happens, I just received a proper VAG3256 (made by Matra) from a trustworthy supplier in Germany.
