I have done this on tractor engines that have blown there oil coolers (3-4 used in them) ran the engine up on a dyno to get it hot then flush it out.

The dishwasher tablet dissolves in the water and as it is a surfactant it holds the oil in suspension allowing you to flush it it. Also cleans all kinds of other **** out too. Oxalic acid is really good for breaking down deposits in the cooking system too.

So uhm... Any brands of dishwasher tablets you can recommend or which we should avoid? What about vinegar? (OK, in won't dissolve oil)

In a recent Which magazine test results on dishwasher tablests, Sainsburys own brand of dishwasher tablet came out best.

                      I've done it too

Need to do it again, going the Oxalic acid route this time, it is apparently safe enough to leave in for a few days/a number of heat cycles, not sure I would leave a DW tablet in there as long as that -have you seen what they do to aluminium pans?

Seen somewhere 3 tablespoons per gallon, so for an I5 I think that's about 6 required.

This is what wories me too....as radiators and head is aluminum.
But i think that for 1 heat cycle will be ok.
