  • Diamond washer - Anyway to check if it is there?

So just saw a couple of threads about the diamond washer and I'm not really sure If mine was there or not when I did the timing belt.

Is there anyway to check or measure if it is on?

if its not ok on the aby the belt will run into the casing head side. simple as that.

the belt works its way off the cam pulley towards the engine

just to clarify the washer sits behind the timing belt pulley right?

And moves it back and forth?

My point is, would it come of when you do the timing belt?

its sits on the crank and makes some space for the vibration damper.

hmm so without the spacer the vibration dampner would be closer to the engine.

Then how can that get the timing belt to run off?

If I understand it correctly it does not alter the position of the timing belt pulley?

No it does not but the damper will hit the oil pump

Hmm pretty sure mine does not hit the oil pump, but i guess the washer could stick on the vibration dampner?

It depends what part number your damper has. Usually it sticks on the damper..

mine didn't stick to the damper.

i may have remembered incorrectly. i know a belt doesn't sit right on mine without it, cathces casing.

i made the mistake of putting the washer on the crank pullet bolt first time and thought i had lost it. got a new one from audi and found it. 25 quid wasted.

its about 7 years since i did the belt last on aby so my memory has slipped. either way you need it.
