Rs2 hybrid hoffer76 turbo

I haven't driven an S2 fitted with a Volvo K24 7400 so I can't make a comparison but with decent mapping I wouldn't describe the performance of a genuine RS2 K24 7200 as laggy, just plain savage...
My 3B Coupe is full RS2 spec running Hoffer software and yeah the turbo obviously spools up later than stock but there's not really any real lag as such compared to a stock RS2 or my K26/7 equipped example both of which are pretty docile until over 3K RPM or so.
Stock RS2's do feel quite laggy but that's purely down to the mapping and perhaps the exhaust cam plays a part but once your used it the feeling is actually quite nice.
Micheal, can you not get a chip set from Hoffer for the turbo you have? As Rusty says it may well be fine (or not) on generic RS2 software but you certainly won't see the full benefit of the billet wheel. Or are you planning on using the generic chips as stop gap until you get a custom map? In which case I'd want a wideband Lambda sensor and AFR gauge fitted at the very least, preferably along with an EGT gauge if your planning on giving it any real stick.
kit that's my plan fit the hoffer76 chips and then take it to a dyno to see what it's doing first before I give it any stick as rusty said it's a gamble you never know what to expect with different chipsets but nip has had this turbo and software and nace both have good results we will see once it's all fitted and tested

Cool, sounds like a good plan, it's reassuring to know that Nip and Nace have run the same set up without issue
.
Hope everything goes smoothly with the installation, have you got new gaskets including the oil line one's etc ready to go?
You should be chuffed with results, the RS2 set up on my 3B is great fun and really quite enough for the road.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

I went out on a short passenger ride in Lloyd's car with one of these.. I opted for the K26/7 hybrid in mine for that extra 20-30hp at the top end albeit with about 300rpm later spool.
It went really well, made power quickly and once you were above 3500rpm lag really wasn't an issue. With launch control it was brutal, I've never felt an RS2 as quick off the mark as this, even mine with the K26/7.
You'll find the torque in the mid range really addictive
In comparison to the Volvo K24 7400... take it with a pinch of salt as it wasn't PRJ mapped (Lloyds car was) but it wasn't as quick; torque not as high. But that said, it was impressive in it's own right pulling from so low down - if you prefer 'diesel' type drivability it's more for you. Personally I prefer to rev it and get the brutal 4-5k torque curve that comes with the bigger turbo

Wow this rs2 hybrid is very torquey at 4000rpm
wasn't expecting it to carry on past my usual gear change at 6200rpm must say it boost very well and I best fit oil catch can now as its breathing heavy I can get these turbo made if anyone is interested or need there rs2 rebuilding
