Stock RS2 : 'Safe' power limits

Hiya, I'm looking at getting a new ECU installed into my RS2 and dyno tuned.

Anyone have opinions on the 'safe' but upper limit BHP , Torque and boost figures I should be aiming for (or staying clear of!).

I'm keen to get a bit more than stock out of it but also don't want to destroy the thing.
    • The car is stock as far as I know
    • I don't plan on taking it on the track
    • Only the occasional burst \ WOT here and there
    • Daily driver

I know the more power I throw at the car the shorter the components lives will be but I've heard that they are pretty well built and over engineered?

    Thanks!

    John

Covered lots of times but to summarise - it's the torque and timing that kill stock engines.

Aftermarket chips peak at 1.7-1.9bar around 4k and drop to 1.4-1.6 bar top end.

Why don't you just get some prj or spink chips?

Thanks, I've tried getting a hold of PJR but he's not responding to me (many months ago he helped with the car and offered to source an ECU which was great. I was keen but he got busy and never managed to get it to me. I tried chasing up but haven't heard anything since even after a few PMs. I've heard he's a busy man though. )

Whoa! Thats awesome! Is this all with stock running gear? Sounds like it has more than just a remap?

I'm aiming for 420-450bhp eventually. Not much point in any more than that on roads in southern England. Above 450bhp and it seems to get a bit expensive. The law of diminishing returns starts to kick in.

Your not running that on the stock turbo setup though, originally post needs to be clarified are you taking sotck turbo or modded engine?

If it's a stock RS2 setup and you're just fitting a chip, then you can source the TS Tuning chips easily enough and get them fitted. Uses the stock RS2 ECU and just needs chip sockets fitting to the boards. I ran these for a few years and while not as safe as PRJ's chips, they are available and pretty savage too.

IMO going for 420-450 in an RS2 isn't worth the hassle. Using the stock turbo maxxed out with other mods gives hella lot of torque and seat of your pants driving for road use.

Going for more bhp by that amount doesn't really seem worth it unless your going larger bhp as you'll likely lose torque on most turbo choices.

Sonics setup would be nice on an Rs2 but again worth it from rs2 to that spec, not sure

Get the Rs2 chipped and freer breathing exhaust and see if that takes your fancy

Freer breathing exhaust from Vortex is already on the list as is a home fries map. I take on board what you're saying about large turbos but I was planning a ball bearing hybrid turbo that spins up more quickly than the stock (20 year old) turbo on my car since it left the factory.

Yeah spins more quickly but a lot less torque, this has been done quite a bit the RS2 turbo is really special, you'd be better removing it and getting a billet wheel fitted to the rs2 turbo if you need to scratch that itch.

Newer doesn't mean better, it's why you have the car in the 1st place.

The car becomes very smooth with a BB turbo, you don't get the same omph

You've probably saved me a few hundred quid then.

How come the RS2 turbo is 'special'?
