Sounds like you have made a good choice there...
Personally - having run an RS2 with 370hp it's a great set-up. Mine was a hybrid turbo that was very laggy so the stock turbo with similar power but better torque curve would be great. You won't beat value as this needs only a remap.
You could fit a hybrid RS2 turbo and get it up to 390-400hp as well, but might want to fit some bigger injectors with a custom map.
You can go with a K26/7 hybrid to get into low/mid 400s, accepting extra lag, but you'll need to change injectors and a bigger fuel pump + custom map it.
Personally - I've fitted Wagner EM, IC, 550cc injectors, Bosch 044, K26/7 hybrid. PRJ mapped to estimated 420hp.

I plan to just swap in the PJR ECU and leave it at that. I don't want to make this thing a crazy weapon but if he's sending me something I may as well make it slightly better than stock.
Just waiting on Paypal details and I'll flick him some cash and hopefully it'll be as easy as that. He'll program up a ECU , send it , I plug it in and the thing is happy as.

Not sure about all the other answers you got but from my experience with a fully RS2'd AAN, the "weak" (limiting) point is the injectors. The OE RS2 injectors are pretty well maxed out by 380 hp. You might be able to reliably push to that but I would definitely recommend going to a 044 Bosch Motorsport fuel pump to make sure that there is enough fuel pressure in the fuel rail at maximum boost, e.g. 2 Bar boost with 380 hp software.
Safer levels are around 360 hp which you can run with the stock fuel pump and injectors and not have to worry about lean-running-induced pinging (pinking) (and the resulting engine damage).
I have been running MRC 360 hp "RS2" software since about 2007 and have been happy (enough) with it. I had some hybrid Tomas Schmidt Tuning/MTM software before that probably made 380 hp but I had to run 9 L of Toluene with 71 L of 94 (RON+MON)/2 gasoline (petrol) to keep the pinging at bay. Plus it was like lighting a short fuse on a bomb - laggy then BOOM...off we go, hang on folks, its going to be a bumpy ride.

My tuppence.
Make sure the car is as the foctory intended, boost leaks, vacuum leaks etc. and just use a PRJ chip, and cat by pass pipes.
A stainless exhaust, if you want people to notice / look at you
A billet RS2 turbo when the above is not enough.
If you subsequently wish to upgrade past that level you need to change a lot of things and then it starts to get expensive - to open the engine, to replace the consumables, gaskets, head bolts etc. as well as the rods, new pistons, rebore, refurbish the head and port and polish it, as the engine is open. And you've opened the engine because you felt like to you wanted to aim a bit higher.
Jamo is right, he's been on here long enough, plenty of experience of seeing how others got, see his post tally.
Kind regards.

Mhh a rs2 turbo is great for a old turbo. Buts it's an old turbo. The right modern turbo spins up faster, makes more torque and power than the rs2 unit. Something like a gtx2863r or gtx2867r or bw efr5862 etc.Yeah spins more quickly but a lot less torque, this has been done quite a bit the RS2 turbo is really special, you'd be better removing it and getting a billet wheel fitted to the rs2 turbo if you need to scratch that itch.
Newer doesn't mean better, it's why you have the car in the 1st place.
The car becomes very smooth with a BB turbo, you don't get the same omph
Just for full disclosure I am a bit biased as I have a gtx2867r for sale but that doesn't change facts that the list of turbos I made are "better" than a rs2 unit. But as your car has a rs2 unit definitely make best of it by getting an exhaust and mapping the car.Leave a comment:

How come the RS2 turbo is 'special'?Leave a comment:

Freer breathing exhaust from Vortex is already on the list as is a home fries map. I take on board what you're saying about large turbos but I was planning a ball bearing hybrid turbo that spins up more quickly than the stock (20 year old) turbo on my car since it left the factory.IMO going for 420-450 in an RS2 isn't worth the hassle. Using the stock turbo maxxed out with other mods gives hella lot of torque and seat of your pants driving for road use.
Going for more bhp by that amount doesn't really seem worth it unless your going larger bhp as you'll likely lose torque on most turbo choices.
Sonics setup would be nice on an Rs2 but again worth it from rs2 to that spec, not sure
Get the Rs2 chipped and freer breathing exhaust and see if that takes your fancyLeave a comment:
