I use an 82 degrees thermostat but with all other radiators and senders stock. Living in a very hot climate makes it just easier to avoid big temperature spikes. an 82 thermostat opens at 82 but is fully open at approx 90 degrees (as I tested yesterday).

70 degrees is too low imho. It'll make the engine run a bit richer than it needs should, and cause bore washing which is not want these, (any), engines want when it should be up to the correct normal temperature.
Notwithstanding any of the constructive criticism / assertive advice you are free to do as you wish with your engine.
Good thread, as it helps show some things are worth upgrading / spending money on, but also shows that upgraded / dearest isn't always the best / necessary.
Kind regards.
Sorry to 911 for the continuation of the thread hijack.

Thermostats don't have any effect on the coolant ceiling temp, or cooling efficiency at all unless they are a significant restriction at fully open. For more cooling you need a rad with larger surface area or better heat transfer through more effective flow (faster or indeed slower circulation of coolant, or coolant with larger specific heat capacity)
To answer the OP's question, use the Gates belt. The OEM belt is Gates

You were not the best of the class in physics a guess.....
First the bigger pulley instead of the smaller and now the high speed on the autobahn that peaks your temperature.....
You're keep digging they say in UK?Comment

Maybe, the Porsche engineers found that the water pump was cavitating at high RPM so fitted a bigger pulley to slow it down?
Just wondering...Comment

Guess you missed today's ABY Water Pump thread in which I replied:

Gates or the Continental one I posted. Either.
Water pump = yes , unless you like to revisit your work say 6 months down the road.
Idler pump = yes (same reason)
Cam seal = sure, easy to do while you're there.
Crank seal = debateable, see water pump.

Belt is no longer available from Audi. Gates is OE manufacture and can be had for £10 online or buy the exact same belt from audi tradition for £70
