    Clean injectors/ISV with ultra sound?

Well since my dad owns a chemical company, that have a ultra sound bath. Where you ex. put in IPA in a tray and out the try into the bath.

Have anybody ever tryed to clean injectors using ultra sound? Was considering trying to clean my injectors and perhaps also give my ISV a turn in the ultra sound bath.
Normaly you out the items in some kinda a fluid, i was considering using IPA.

Well has anybody tried this before? or have any ideas on how to do this?

I think ultrasound is indeed the basis of some commercially available injector cleaning/balancing benches.

Suggest you hook up a test rig so you can see before and after results.

Yeah a test rig with a fuel pump, pressure regulator, a fuel rail with some quality hoses and a fuel pressure guage. Then all you need is a 12V source to drive the injectors - spraying fuel into glass measuring cylinders... That way you can see the spray pattern and quanitify how much fuel they deliver over time.

Some Bosch specialists and other mosport firms have such test rigs.

Don't see the point of cleaning them if you can't see any gains...

          That is true Paul,

But since they are 7 years old and never have been cleaned i thought that would be smart to clean them?

And since it is fairly easy and takes perhaps 10 minutes i was just wondering if it was bad for the injectors.

I cleaned them ultrasoon, it kost something like 20 euro per injector. I got them back, not only cleaned but they also replaced some parts. It was a big difference for me.

Ultrasound will be fine for cleaning the injectors. I wouldn't put the ISV in there though. A word of caution...If you release all the deposits inside the injector, check out how you are going to get them out? I can imagine the pro's remove the filter baskets to allow the deposits to come out the way they went in. If not you may end up with an injector with small particles stuck inside, this may lead to poor spray pattern or a blocked injector. Only guessing, it may be fine just to stick them in and rattle them to death for a few mins.

Yeah well it does seems that it is a bit more difficult then i thought.

Will wait a bit with the cleaning then.

Ultra Sonic cleaners for Fuel injectors work by firing the injectors at differnet rates while flowing cleaning fluid through them. I think i paid about £20 each when i had mine done, the before and after difference was very noticeable when they ran a flow test. No idea what fluid they use during the process....

I had mine cleaned a while ago. It was 30 euros per injector here including new o-ring seals and end caps.
They provided a before/after test report. Flow came up about 10% and the differences between each became quite small. My feelings were that fuel consumption might have lowered by about 0.5l/100km but I really can't test it as every refill has different urban/countryside drive style mixture. Just a feeling.
