As per title i fitted a new hall sender last w/end the car started fine and it as run ok for the last week however on Wednesday i went to work as normal at the end of my shift jumped in the car turned the key engine turned over but wouldn't start my guess was the sender as it was the same symptom as the last time it happend which was the week before, I towed it home put it on vcds and up came 00515 hall sender no signal i have just stripped the car down but havn't as yet removed the cam sprocket as everything looks ok my question is could i have placed the sender on wrongly and is there a test i can do to find out if it's duff.

Another member has measured the voltage drop from pin 2 of the connector. When the window and the sensor align the voltage should drop from 5V to more or less nothing. So if you have a multimeter you should be able to measure pin 2 by peeling back the rubber from the connector and a good earth whilst turning the engine over manually for a few revolution and see if it drops.
I haven't tried this myself but it seems plausible!Comment

I think you are probably probing between the feed and return wires.
First you need to determine which of the wires is the reference voltage from the ecu. Only one of the outer wires will be this. So probe between one wire and earth to see whch one is it. Once you have found the 5V one you will know the other is earth.
Pin 2 is the return signal to the ecu. Again this is the one that should have 5V and then drop to next to nothing. The other outer pins are permenantly 5V and earth. Depending on where the window is you will get 5V between the middle pin and one of the outer pins (earth) or a little voltage if the window is open. If you measuring between the outer pin with the 5V and the middle you will not get any voltage.
Try that!Comment

G40 Cam Position Sensor (CPS) info (AGAIN)
From the link that the OP is obviously ignoring. Why do I bother?

Bit concerned with feeding 12V to something (including the ecu) thats expecting no more than 5V!
Basically the ecu needs to see that window electronically. Whether it is an earth or just a very low voltage I am not certain.
Seem to recall that PRJ had a technique to get the car started but whether that was repeatedly earthing pin 2 whilst the engine was being cranked is also uncertain!Comment

Mines run with 12V for over 3 years now.
ECU is alittle different. I'll give you that but the sensor is made to take 12V same as the cosworth ones.ChefComment
