Those who have tuned the knock say it's better than motronic. The vast majority of aftermarket ECUs I know, tuners don't bother with knock.
To tune knock you do it the same way you would while tuning your spark angle. You use headphones and by having the basics in the cells that vems give you then you tune accordingly.
As for the cells, no matter how different engines may be they can still be tuned on that fuel table. Since you have full control over where your RPM and MAP bin will be you can make a table anywhere you like. Do you think you should have your RPM range by 500rpm intervals for example?
I changed my tables everytime I used a different turbo. Since I wanted more cells for where the turbo spooled I used more lines there and less in an area that the state was more or less stable.
There are ways around all these things. You don't need 24x24 tables to accommodate your needs.
Yes as you say every 500rmp and map every 0.5bar.
Not every 1000rmp and 1bar jumps as you have to make it on vems.
You need 5 tables map to get to 0.
I dont tust a cheap ecu so that i let them interpolet half of my map.

I don't get you guys.
Are you tuners or just hobbists like me? How can I tune my 500hp car like a charm and you find it 'hard' ?
A 1000hp car would need even fewer cells to tune as all you use it for is drag or race and you don't have to care about having 4 cells for idle and a good bunch for cruising. How can I have all those things and still have a very good result?
14x16 table you will find that you never have to go to 1000rpm intervals up to 7500rpm. If you are running more than that then you just use a small area of the range which is simple and steady and make the range of importance more elaborate. Do you really need 500rpm intervals between 1800 to 3000rpm when tuning a 1000hp car that goes to 9000rpm range??? Honestly???
Or do you need 4 rows of vacuum before you start tuning boost above 100kpa?

I think you are over reacting...
Maybe, but i know how my car run.
I fix cell by cell at the dyno up to 4500rmp and after this a streetrun. So i know that my car run not to fat or lean on normal streetdrive.
For 1/4mile you dont need this, that's clear.
Fact is with vems instaed of motronic you go a step behind not forward.

Sorry that is only your view.
I have been 1000 steps forward with vems
No more stupid mixture adaptation problems with a bad maf wiring or dirt, no more boost problems because the motronic didn't feel like it+ gear depended boost + 4.9 bosch wideband which is the latest generation + high powered ls2 coils without issues etc
My car is a street car and I used to run without any wideband control up until recently from 250kpa of boost and above. Only fuel table. Never had any issues whatsoever. Better fuel economy than motronic and had enough cells to do this. Now with 4.9 lamda I use a closed loop control for all the map and the small lamda table again is more than enough to cope. I too tuned the car on the street and dyno up to 7500rpm. Also vems has a backup safety that if the lamda fails it still uses the VE table you have tuned with added safety.
Maybe you are not thinking this through...
I am not a tuner and cannot comment for other ecu. But I sure stand by that small tables of VEMS is certainly NOT a limitation. Only to those who cannot understand how it works.
Please post. Of course there can be many parts/cells in the table that have the same value, but it's not the same on all setups. Also due the fact the table is so small, you may not be able to fine tune the area between your enormous cells. Are you really saying you need a smaller VE table because many of the cells have same value?
But I have nothing against VEMS, I think it's a fine budget standalone ones you get over the small problems that may occure with it(of course there can be problems with other stand alones also). I don't think the knock sensing either is too easy to setup and may not have any value if not set properly. It's perfectly fine to take 1000hp with it or use it on your daily driver, but there are other ecus that can make it easier or/and better, but then again at more cost
nobody sad that it's too big fuel table is more that enough, it has interpolation, lamda feedback so that's not a problem, only ignition table could be bigger, I personaly don't like boost steps like 0.5 bar, and yes, there is lot of ecus who are better, but not much who supports audi trigger properly, knock sensing it belongs from engine.. sometimes it's 5 minute job sometimes half a day

I believe you are huge fan of hydra ecu, they have 32x32 fuel and ignition maps, so you can fix your dyno wherever you want

I also drive my car with vems and 840ps without any probs.
Just change it to a vipec because i ned Bigger fuel and ignition adjustmant.
But if i can get a ecu with Bigger tables for the same money then i`ll take them.
Kamuto just know one ecu it vems )) and dont how to tune it that engine didnt burn) and like i know all cars hi tuned goes like ferry.
more than one vems, nira, link, vipec, really dont like megasquirt , gems, some oem honda ecu's, hondata, some of motronics, waiting to put my hands on maxx, hoping for some complicated setup but most my job are based on vems 150+ cars on vems running no problem as I know from 200hp dayly drivers with petrol/lpg, to 1200+hp dragsters, rally cars, drift cars and so on, lack of CAN bus really sucks sometimes, but that's maybe problem who will be solved at the begining of next year
That's a smooth table, but I still don't see why a bigger table wouldn't give you more accuracy, especially on high boost setups..? I don't mean you can't get a fine working tune with this table.
