    Front Pulley Friction Shim

I came across this, http://rosten-performance.com/produc...ankshaft-shim/, its designed to prevent the key on the front pulley shearing. Could be a good way to prevent the fatigue cracking of an OEM pulley

Of course part mentioned is for a 2.5tdi and that how I found it in regard to my ti project but the design and theory is the same

So that's the diamond washer as fitted to later 20VT engines?

Interesting, although a correctly torqued pully won't come loose. Just like the website mentioins, cracked keyways are usually an installation fault.

Maybe...though the 20VT washer is approx 2mm thick and also acts as a spacer vital to correct pulley alignment.

I have one of the diesel items in a draw of odds and sods, can't remember for the life of me where it came from.

The shim for the TDi is just that, a shim, I think it's 0,25mm thick. I think they are about £12 from Audi, but they won't be any good on a petrol as they will throw out the pulley alignment.

I know on the AAN, the early ones did not have the washer, and the later ones did... along with a different damper pulley. The later items superseded the earlier, so if you have an early one and want to replace the damper, you have to buy the washer also.

I imagine it might have been the same with the ABY, but since the 3B was earlier I would not think any of those would have the washer.

Re the washer mentioned in the first post, the website says it's only 0.1mm thick which is less than 0.004". That probably would not affect pulley alignment enough to matter.

Yes I imagined this would be a upgrade part to stock set up as its only 0.1mm/4 Thou thick and pulley alignment will be ok. I currently use a 7A pulley on my 2.5tdi and am likely to use this as an upgrade, or a stronger bolt torqued higher...
