  • brake/steering fluid fault light

I've just finished rebuilding my motor but the brake/steering fluid check light stays on. Its the red circle with exclamation mark on the dash. All the fluid levels are fine and plugs are attached.
I didn't have this problem before the rebuild

Maybe the float/level sensor on the reservoir cap has stuck, BTDT. There should be a tiny plastic pin sticking out the top of the cap that's connected to the float. If this isn't visible it might be stuck in the 'down' position ie no fluid. Or the sensor itself has failed...

That pin is fine. Where is the sensor located?

Also level sensor on brake fluid reservoir on top of master cylinder can be the culprit.
The part is still available at Audi dealer also dead easy to slide it out and change

Don't know why I am doing this. You should be using Ekaterina and learning where parts are yourself. But I am

Unplugged both sensors and the warning light still stays on. Is there another electrical plug that these sensors use or maybe a fuse somewhere?

This can be triggered by 3 sensors:

PAS fluid level - (float switch in reservoir cap)
Brake Fluid level - (level sensor on reservoir)
Hydraulic pressure (pressure sensor on bottom of servo)

They all work by pulling to ground. Therefore if you disconnect all the sensors, the light should go out and stay out.
Then plug back the sensors one by one until you find the culprit.

Had the pressure switch fail intermittently on my 7a Coupe.

Thanks, only saw that after I replied.
I've disconnected all 3 and the light stays on

Then you have a short to ground on that circuit.
