Injector cleaning - is this method OK ???

Just wondering if anyone has cleaned their injectors with the method shown in this video?

Basically it involves removing the injector from the car, spraying carb cleaner into it, whilst pulsing 12v to the injector to open and close it.

My ABY has got a misfire, and the fault code indicates injector on cylinder 1 is a problem. I haven't yet had a close look at the wiring for this injector, but if its ok I was considering trying this cleaning method.

    Any comments welcome.

I never really get why petrol injectors need cleaning. What's better than petrol at cleaning?? I'd just try a new injector or try swapping first to see if the fault follows the injector.

They do varnish up, and require a proper solvent to get rid of it -think heat after switch off and you'll see the potential for them to gum up.

I had a brand new EV14 that was blocked (I bought them but did not use them for about 2 years) I used carb cleaner, air line and a battery, worked fine, took about 10 mins to start working properly.

I stand corrected. I'd just think petrol has far better cleaning ability compared to carb cleaner. Be interesting to hear the results

Carb cleaner is scary solvent, it will take paint or powder coating off down to the metal in seconds.

Cheers for the comments everyone - and a big thanks for the offer of injector cleaning LSG. I plan to have a good look at the car tomorrow, then I can let you know.

The fault code the car has thrown up is 01249 - Fuel injector for cylinder 1 (N30) Open or Short to Ground.

I have looked through a few threads about issues on injectors, and one possibility could be the wiring to the injector. Hopefully I will know more tomorrow.

Have a good look at the inside of the two pin connector that goes to the injector, it's much more likely to be that than the injector itself.

That error is certainly an elecy fault, cleaning wont help. The loom itself is a bit fragile so remove the plastic strip holding it to the head and inpect it for any damage, especially where it exits the plastic moulding. A bit of elecy contact cleaner in the plugs/injector socket might be an idea too.

                          Thats the one.

I managed to have a brief look at the car today.

I inspected and cleaned the plug to injector on cylinder 1, and it appeared ok. Gave it a clean and started the car. All was well, so I took it out and travelled about 3 miles. Stopped the car for about 45 mins, then on starting it to come home, the misfire began again.

The car sounded rather like a Subaru Impreza - which was a novelty. Anyway, got it home, and read the fault codes again. I did clear them before hand, and this time I got:

01249 - Fuel injector for cylinder 1 (N30) Open or Short to Ground.
00537 - Lambda sensor control Maximum or Minimum control limit exceeded.
01252 - Fuel injector for cylinder 4 (N33) Open or Short to Ground.

I didn't get the chance to explore further, but wonder if these faults together point to a fuel pressure issue. Would that sound sensible?

The first time the car behaved like this was when it was hot (ie the car had been used ), and it began soon after re-starting. Which is what happened again today. Does that point to something?

Is there any thing obvious that is causing the problem?

I would bet on a problem with the injector connector or the injector wiring loom.

                              Thanks Newsh,

So are the wires that run from the ECU to the injectors in one piece (continuous)- or do they run through any other plugs / connectors that could be the source of a problem?

Im wondering if I might have a problem at the ECU end of the loom, or if there is other connectors - at that point.
