One of my friends has a pile of E30 bits and pieces and has some ECU's and wiring looms from around 1991. He thinks it might me Motronic 1.3 which uses a 55 pin connector although not all 55 pins are in use, however i'm not sure if this is what i should be looking for? Any advice much appreciated.

Take some pics about it and we could determine if it's valid.

You can buy new pins so no worry about it (in female connector).

      See you

Yes, looks like our motronics. I think it could be useful.

Did you have to add additional wires to the connector? As the one my friend has got from an E30 does not use all 55 pins, quite a few of them are blank.

For original 3B Yes, 5 to coils, 1 to Vss, and 1 to MFTS.

With E30 female connector you need to move or add pins and let free not used pins for ABY application. Some suppliers sold new pins to add it.

Check first post to locate the scheme from S2Central.

You know how was these poor S2 when I bought it. It was a car that almost ended at scrapyard...

Now is reborn. Fresh and totally functional.

But you S2 is awesome! Someday mine would be as nice as yours

I'm underway with this task now, the E30 ECU did the trick, all stripped down ready for rebuilding now. What type of pins did you use to attach the wires to the connector? Can't tell from your pic due to the heat shrink covering them.

                      Cheers

I'm in the process of doing the same thing.

I have sourced connectors and terminals and all as well.

If it can help someone, here's what I found (spent many many many hours sourcing and cross-referencing those).

NOTE : I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE ITEMS - I CANNOT VOUCH FOR QUALITY NOR FITMENT YET - but will soon

                        (translator http://www.engtaobao.com/ )

Bosch 55 pin male connector (ECU side) :

                        http://world.taobao.com/item/3678006...?fromSite=main

-Bosch 55 pin female (without terminals/wires - I did find one like Charles20vt with it pre-wired, though I can't find it on the site anymore).

                        http://world.taobao.com/item/5279308...?fromSite=main

Also found this - though it could be helpful as I may be thinking in fitting a microsquirt board in one and it'd become pnp for our ECU's

-OEM terminals cross-reference chart - See xcel attachment

                        We need OEM part # : 000 979 225 E

Which has Tyco or TE Connectivity part # cross-referenced to : 964273-2 for strips or 964287-2 for singles

This can also be helpful to make VEMS v3 quite easily pnp - or any other standalones

                        Cheers

Thanks for sharing info about BMW E30 55-pin connectors.
Such connectors from Audi V8(D11) and 80 TDi 1Z should also suit the purpose.

What about the other end of the wires that are heat shrinked, you won't be using JPT terminals there?
