    Turbo Refurbishment

    Hi

Is there anybody out there who can refurb turbo internals upgrade where possible?

I have an Albert K26 hybrid that looks like it could do with the once over by somebody more qualified than me.

I've spoken to a couple of online companies but they are talking £300 before they even take the thing apart, fr that money i may aswell take my chances & have it installed as it is.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Kindest Regards

    Neal

Why would you want to rebuild a recently refurbed turbo? £300 is on the money for a strip and rebuild. The cost s due to the rebuilder wanting to replace seals/rings and rebalance before puting the unit back together for you.

No the turbo hasn't been refurbished at all, I purchased the turbo off a member on here for £600. Thee doesn't appear to be damaged the compressor wheel doesn't spin & keep spinning for as easy or long as i imagined it to hence why i want it refurbed with new internals seals/rings and rebalance like you said.

This is hole reason I'm asking on here Steve is to see if anybody can do it any cheaper.

it dosent sound faulty to me, i have a ceramic ball bearing turbo and that only spins a little bit after giving it a "finger spin"

is there any play in the shaft? why not just take it to a local place for them to have a look at it and advise?

Also, i think the point made above is that Albert only produced these turbos quite recently so it was only rebuilt....what.. say a year ago? (correct me if i am wrong)

Its probably due to the fact that the centre housing is dry. The shaft and bearings need oil to float on.
It will be a bit messy but if you pump some oil into the correct port, that should make things better.
Not sure if its been used before or not, but as long as you are confident of its history then it should be good to go.
To be honest its difficult to accurate assess problems off the vehicle unless you have the specs and accurate measuring equipment.

£300 is the going rate for a strip and rebuild but for £600 I'd expect it to be in as new condition as per the photos, it doesn't appear to have been fitted let alone run so should be good to go.

As Twoqu says journal turbos rely on the shaft's bearing floating on a film of pressurised oil and it's probably just dried out a little due to the lack of storage bungs, by rights the oil and water feed/return ports should be blocked whilst not installed, the oil in particular.

The oil feed is the small hole on the top side of the centre section with an M6 stud either side the return is the larger hole on the bottom with an M6 threaded hole each side.

When installing the unit be sure to prime it with fresh oil before connecting the supply hose, I use a little funnel and manually spin the shaft to ensure it's lubricated ready for start up.

Is there any side to side play or end float?

That sounds great, it'll be good to have a resident specialist on here so to speak, the Hoffer turbos were well regarded and very fairly priced IMO.

Interesting use of capital letters by the way...

Yes my grammatical OCD spotted that, along with two cases of "our" being spelt "Are"
