    Fault Code 2413

I've not been able to shake a 2413 fault for sometime. I do seem to have a slightly lower mpg than I would expect and performance is down intermittently.

Reading the details on fault codes then I shoudl be looking at MAF/Fuel Pressure/Exhaust

MAF and lambda are new and newish respectively.

I cannot hear or see any exhaust leaks.

    Process of elimination....
How/Can I test the fuel pressure?

Is there anything else out there that may cause symptoms and 2413.

    Cheers

I'm getting the same code. It only started after a home fry and it is either the leak that has developed (still not tracked it down) or a completely coincidental dicky MAF. I was getting overboost protection cut off at 4rpm at one point, put on a MAF from APNess and the car was fine. I think mine only occurs at WOT. I'm currently driving without using WOT and seeing if the code aoccurs.

MPG was down for a while but is now OK again.

Take the plugs out and check them. Mine were sooted up but seem OK now.

Not sure if any of this actually helps you though

Mine has also got this code, permanently!
I've replaced and swapped/tested off a mates motor:

      Lambda
      MAF
      WGCFV
      ISV
      Intake temp sensor
      Throllle position sensor

(Tested all VAC and BOOST pipes for leaks too) = ok.

And still the fault is there! I had some probs with poor fuel economy and intermittent performance with the over boost protection routine rearing it's ugly head occasionally! I eventually tracked the problem down to be the MAF PLUG! Even though it looked like new i sprayed a lot of brake cleaner through it and then lubed it with a touch of duck oil and no probs since!! (Apart from 2413!, but I’ve kind of learnt to live with it cos it causes me no probs?)

        I tell a lie.

I get 2413 even when not using WOT. I've just driven 100 miles and never used WOT and still got the code. Mind you I just got 345 miles out of 11.7 litres - 29.5 mpg!!!!

I was driving carefully didn't want my pipe to fall of its holder and burn my slippers

Can you clean the MAF itself? I've tried cleaning the connector as suggested but doesn't seem to have got rid of the code.

This code usually relates to lambda, fuel pressure, a bad MAF, minor air leak or an exhaust leak. I'm 99% sure that the infamous Paul Jenkinson only cured this fault after a small leak in his exhaust was fixed.

Leigh your mileage is about 4 mpg better than I ever acheived by cruising on those chips which means you are using less fuel than I would expect.

I hate that 2413 code just there are just so many variables...

            Paul,

I've had a look at my exhaust today as I wondered about that. If you recall that pssssttt noise I get when switching off the engine (sometimes) I wondered if this was from an exhaust leak as I cannot find it in the engine bay itself. Still trying to find it, so far no joy.

No wonder Audi has moved to V8's for the new S's.

Woot! Fame at last. Probably for all the wrong reasons :S

Yeah if I recall, there was a leak in my exhaust - a small one, that my friendly mechanic guy patched up and I never got the code again.

Leigh - you've had someone dabble with your cats yeah? Is this fault code 'exhaust leak before the cats' or something? Maybe worth checking out - get up on the ramps and listen for the puffing sounds, though I'm sure someone will say there is a technical way to check for exhaust leaks.

Me? I'd buy £20 worth of exhaust gum and cake the exhaust joints with the stuff, clear the fault code when it's all dried, then give it a thrash before checking the codes again. *shrug* but then my technical knowledge about anything could be written on a grain of rice. With a paint roller.

However, I never got overboost protection (cut out) when I had that problem, so an air leak is the next (most probable) cause I'd say.

Also thanks to Mihnea for pointing out a possible boost leak on my car

I love good news though it could explain why my car felt slow compared to the Red Ferrari Enzo I passed today.

              Which was stood still.

Just a quick follow up on this problem.

The 2413 code is logged when I get a suicidal idle which happens intermittently on mine when coming off cold start-up and onto warm running.

My poor running is now solved, this was due to a very small intermittent air leak on the line to the ECU.

                SoI have three remaining problems:
                1. The suicidal idle
                2. Lack of overboost
                3. Slightly poor mpg

But its almost running right! Damn these cars are 'finicky'.

Same symptoms I had when fuse 24 was kaput. Well, for that, read 'not there at all'. Check all your fuses - you never know...?

I used to get the 2413 code but sinec it has been chipped its gone. But when i removed the downpipe from the turbo (to change the turbo for the chip) it was only on with three nuts! So now its on with four! So its either one of them two!

Mine used to get 2413 all the time until it was chipped as well. You could feel when the fault came on as the car transformed completely. The motor fuses where in and out every couple of days to clear the fault memory.

could this code also be down to a faulty fuel pump/blocked fuel filter? ive got this code and my reader says low fuel pressure

This is obviously a very old thread now, but from memory yeah i think low fuel pressure can contribute, have you actually check fuel pressure? I cleaned out and used my oil pressure tester but bear in mind it is relative to boost pressure cant remember the figures but i am sure they are somewhere about.

I think in the end the 2413 code was down to the wrong lambda probe installed. I bought the car with it in and it was only when i checked with Martyn @ VAG PARTS that it turned out to be the wrong one for the chassis?

                            Oh I miss my S2
