  • Oil pump replace or substitute for the AAN

    Hello mates,

I've started collecting all the bits for my rebuild. The oil pumps are very very expensive and i have just realized that maybe the 2.5tdi AEL one could make the job well, it is the same one as the old 2.2t 10vt, the 2.2/2.3 and many others engines (see att pic). The price is almost a half of the oem one ....placed at 287euro (febi 32302).

Can someone give me any suggestion about it in order to buy it or not?

    Thank you all in advance!!!

    Fab.

    20VT oil pump info

The oil pump is driven off a washer on the nose of the crankshaft (Item 2, PN 034105177 below). The oil pump is a gear pump which means the oil pressure is created by two rotating gear wheels as their teeth intermesh, causing pressure as the gear teeth try to compress the mostly incompressible fluid (the engine oil). If the pressure gets too high for some reason in the pump, the pressure pushes against the pressure release piston and spring, releasing pressurized oil back into the oil pan. Note: The ADU in the RS2 originally used the 054115105D oil pump from the AAR 10V five cylinder gasoline engine instead of the more common 054115105E that the AAN and ABY use. However, the 054115105D was dropped on Jan.11, 2002 in favour of the AAN/ABY oil pump (the 054115105E). The 3B (and NM and 7A) use a 034115105B oil pump.

This is supposed to be a 2.5L TDI AEL oil pump, PN 074115105A.

Furthermore, apparently the oil pump drive washer that fits on the nose of the crankshaft is the same for both the AEL 2.5TDI and AAN.

Would you risk with a Febi pump? Febi doesn't produce the best parts. Even though it does cost half of the AAN pump. Take into account that AAN pump is only produced by VW, hence the price.

Mine's is good, the whole engine is perfect, but since I'm opening the engine to replace the rods, gaskets, rings and rod shells (300.000km) it is also good to replace the heart of the engine which is the oil pump.

So maybe the TDI's can run fine then?! It should hace better oil pressure at idle I think... Why wouldn't be the Febi's good? Well I have never heard of big failures with their products (other opinions accepted)

VW does not produce anything themselves.

Well, technically they don't, they order stuff. But AFAIK they do the quality control themselves. That makes the difference.

Not much is done besides packaging.
The Febi-Bilstein group is an OE supplier for some parts as well.

True that, but I've seen some very bad quality stuff in their packages. Just my experience though. I tend to stay away from Febi, unless I have no other choice.
