Benefits of water jacketed block and head?

Hi i am thinking to do the water jacketing mod for my future stroker build. What would be the real beneefits of doing this? I saw that some of you guys already did this and also ex rally cars had this. What would be the perfect dimension and depth for the water chanells? Also stock head gasket could be used right? Thanks

I could be wrong but I don't think a stock head gasket would work with such a modification, I'd imagine you'd need a custom copper item.

I'm sure someone who's actually done the work will add their input soon.

First block appears to have liners, probably a sport Quattro aluminium block.

You can keep the combustion chamber cooler so you make the engine more knock resistant and can run closer to MBT timing = more torque.
IIRC Repo said he was able to safely run 2-3deg more advance with the deck cooling channels.
I think it is fine to use the stock headgasket as long as you are sensible with size & shape of channels.

You're the man. That's what i wanted to hear but was afraid to ask. More advance = more power

Doesn't JP run cooling channels on his stroker?

Chris Brydon (Wheeljack) in the US has done this and said it's only going to yield benefits at the 600 hp range and above.

Kinda wish I would have had it done anyways though.

In terms of depth etc you need to be involved with the machinist/engine builder so you are all on the same page. They should have experience with this modification otherwise find someone else.

In my country i don't know of anyone who had done this. There are 2-3 performance I5 but none with this mod. Thats why i asked here. here i saw a bunch of water jacketed engines and would like to get some more info about this. I don't want to ruin my block and head.

I would do the head and leave the block. Cheaper mod and should have the same affect.

Is not really about the costs. I have a friend who can help me out with this. I just want to do it right.

                        2mm on both surfaces should be sufficient. As long as it integrates with the headgasket in a proper fashion. There is plenty of good photos on JNL's stroker thread (among other stuff);

It will benefit any engine that is knock limited, but of course it must be mapped correctly in order to take advantage of it.

Go and ask at "Chiuloasa" in your town. But ask the manager and only.
All 2.2 worn cylinders i saw they showed fails at TDC.
20 mm down from TDC all in specs,so i think this mod will help even for long term durability.

Get info if torque plate is needed for honing with this mod.I tested a stock block with a head torqued at specs and my gauge was not abble to see differences in bore diameter(0.01mm gauge). But i do not know how bores will react when head is torqued with this coolant mod.

                              Absolutely!

I meant to say, when he and I talked there are better things to invest in below 600hp for gains.
