    Help with helicoil insert choice

    Hey guys.

I've recently came over the helicoil thread repair (yeah, i'm living under a rock) and thought it would be a nice way to fix my stripped cam cover bolts. Right now I have M8 to M6 studs there, but it's not the best way because the nose of the camcover goes under the cam pulley and because the studs are fairly long, it's an annoying hassle.

So the holes have been redrilled and threaded to M8. Could someone tell me which inserts are needed to return it to the M6 and use the same bolts which are used on other cam cover holes?

I couldn't find any inserts in my location, but stumbled upon some on ebay. Are these, for example, good to get (size advice needed)?

These are the repaired threads and I also happen to have the 7A cover, if that's of any consequence.

helicoil kits use specific size drill bits and are supplied with a tap which cuts the thread which the insert then screws into. i think (without checking) that an m8 drilled hole will be to big to tap out for your desired m6 bolt. you may be as well tapping it to m8 and fitting an m8 threaded cap screw...

You'll be hard pressed to find a helicoil that's m8 down to m6. An m6 helicoil kit will come with the appropriate size tap for the external size of the insert. You can't buy one based on the external thread, they don't work like that. You'll have to open the hole out and tap it to the supplied size if you get what I mean.
