    UrS6 - Manual Boost Controller

A friend decided to try out a Turbosmart manual boost controller on his fried ANN.

I've driven it before and after and it is very definitely quicker and more energetic. The maximum level of boost hasn't changed. It is set a s fifteen clicks from fully closed, about a third of the possible adjustment.

The normal running temperature hasn't changed. He has run it with octane booster. He hasn't yet fitted an air / fuel meter.

Just wondering about a mbc as the definite marked increase in 'sprightliness' is very hard to ignore.

It can be mapped in to a certain extent.

A bigger spring will replicate the behaviour a bit but with that and the MBC you do lose out on the safety of boost cut.

Playing with boost isn't a good idea without a wideband and egt gauge. You also run the risk of the ECU throwing a hissy fit due to boost outside of range.

One option is something like an eBoost electronic controller with the map changed to suit. It's telling that neither Mihnea nor Dimitri resorted to boost control outside motronic. While not perfect, it must do the job...

All in all, without mapping, I'd not be doing it on a car I cared about.

      UrS6 - Manual Boost Controller

I run an eBoost on the coupe. I've set it up to give 1.5 Bar which is less boost than the chipset would normally give but the throttle is much more responsive.
I did this because I'm running RS2 software with a GT 3071 turbo which would boost over 2 bar on the RS2 boost chip.
I also have a wide band gauge on the dash.

        Thanks for replies.

What has attracted him to it is that it is very easy to splice it into the pipe from the N75 to the wastegate and that's it. It doesn't overboost or spike.

Obviously say an RS2 turbo, bigger injectors with a suitable chip will give more boost / power, but per dollar spent and effort in fitting it is hard to ignore.

        Just sayin..........

I tried a mechanical MBC briefly, it stuck shut and bent the needle on my 3Bar boost gauge. Without billet rods it would have been goodnight Vienna..

Was it an e-bay special or a home made one / from the Far East ?

Rather than one from a reputable manufacturer ?

            Just askin............

            Thanks for your replies.
