Well, am now running around with my new rad after my recent severed top hose connector incident. I also took the opportunity to change the thermostat whilst the rad was out. I also a few months ago removed the aux rad as that was a Mr Leaky.
I wouldn't say that the ambient temperatures we're experiencing in London at the moment (late March) are fantastically warm, but I guess it's warmer than all the previous months when I've been running without the aux rad.
Basically, with the new rad installed, the car seems to be running a little hotter than it used to. The gauge now routinely sits at 2 notches above 90C, and, even in March, the cooling fan is coming in on the 1st speed when pottering around/ sitting in traffic.
I've got a 3B and have (malfunctioning again) Aircon installed.
Is 2 notches above 90 anything to be worried about? When on the move at pace (m-way cruising), it settles on 90. Oil temp and oil pressures are as normal.
I'm going to keep an eye on this, I'm worried that with summer approaching, is the cooling system going to cope with the higher temperatures? Is this telling me the new rad (from GSF) is less efficient than the old one, or perhaps the new thermostat is opening slightly later than the old? Can that be adjusted?
I don't want the car overheating that's for sure, but I'm also not entirely keen on either installing a new aux-rad, or removing the Aircon as I want that to work when the heat comes - actually I wanted it on Monday but alas...
