My 7A CQ20v has been running fairly well recently and I don't often really "boot it" but on occasion I have put my foot right down and it's caused a problem. I'm talking 6000rpm for 2 seconds in 2nd gear and then another 2 seconds in 3rd gear, then I ease off ( because I can't go any faster than that locally without getting myself in trouble).
What's I'm getting is a kind of "choking" afterwards. Like spurts of hesitation that I might associate with fuel issues. Even with minimal power it hesitates for a second or a split-second, frees up again for a second or so, then hesitates again.. this might go on for a few seconds and then everything's ok again. Then a few seconds or a minute later I get a bit of it again. I might manage a couple of minutes or it might keep happening every 30 seconds or so.
It did this is decent weather and it's doing it now in cold weather. But it doesn't misbehave unless I really give it the beans for a few seconds.
My initial thought is that the 26 year old fuel pump is on its last legs and after I abuse it, it's coughing like a geriatric until I let it sleep overnight to settle down. It's normally fine in the morning again (as long as I don't abuse it).
The thing is... I want to abuse it just a little bit. What the hell's the point of having a 5 pot quattro in the snow if you can't be a bit silly now and again?
All thoughts welcome.

They would be rubber I guess? I can't for the life of me think what they are. I think my A4 had a metal filter and plastic clips with rubber washers/grommets.
