    Misfire and spark plug gap

Gents, yesterday I got around to servicing my s2 along with a set of fresh NGK BKR7EIX spark plugs.

Took the car for a spin later and everything seemed fine, pulled a tad cleaner than before but this was WOT in just 2nd and 3rd.
So I thought nothing more... fast forward to today I went for a 60 mile drive. Everything was as normal except the one occasion in 6th at 60mph I put my foot to the floor, and that's when I nearly head butted the windscreen.

It then occurred to me I hadn't gapped the spark plugs. Now can I gap them after I've used them for a few miles?

Also what's the best method to reduce the gap on the iridium plugs without damaging the electrode?

    Thanks

They should be gapped near enough from new, but worth checking. 0.6mm from memory. I doubt it's the plugs causing the issue. ECU has cut due to an issue. Probably a boost leak.

      imho.

Doubt a gap 'issue' would cause that, would tend to agree that it is a boost leak issue.

Presumably the timing of the leak is just a 'confusing' coincidence.

Agree with the other 2,there's no way your plugs are doing this,it's down to a boost issue. Whats probably happened, when you changed your plugs and enjoyed the new friskiness of your engine with WOT you probably opened up,with a split,in what was an already dodgy hose. The exact same thing happened to me May this year.

          Ah quite possibly!
From new them plugs are 0.7mm and yes I was advised to bring it down to 0.6mm, that's why I assumed that could be the culprit.

I ran 0.7mm gap with those same plugs without issue mate. All the small pipes are silicone too so maybe a larger hose has split?

They all seemed to be it 0.6mm in comparison
Fresh set of silicon boost pipes to go on this week anyway. So let's see...

                  I hope so...

Also I just took it for a quick spin and it seems perfectly normal at WOT in 1st and 2nd.
If there was a leak should it not affect every gear when hitting boost?

                    Misfire and spark plug gap

Always more likely to cut in the higher gears with more load.

Just a thought, pull the MAF connector on and off a few times and see if it's different.
A poor connection at the MAF has the same symptoms as a boost leak.

Come to think of it I did indeed pull the maf to give it a quick clean, and did notice the connector had a tiny bit of play in it when I re connected it.
Ran out of day light today to fit the new hoses, but hopefully all shall be back to normal... well here's hoping..

And to conclude this thread, it was down to a poor ignition coil.
After inspecting the plugs there seemed to be one odd one out with regards to the markings on them. So I took a shot in the dark and ordered 5 new ignition coils from Audi, ever since there's been no misfire or hesitation.

Thanks for all the input gents
