Has changing the hall sensor fixed the problem?

Haven't got one yet it should be 'VAG PART'ing its way from the father land as we speak, should be tuesday. Just did the 'I think i will just pop that cambelt cover off' and ended up with the car in bits
Its back together now, well enough to get me to work and back. Will take it apart again when the bit arrives, only takes 1/4 hour when you practice as much as i have too

Put on new sensor today and all seams rosey so far (Thanks alan at VAG Parts )
Bit tired cause bin on nights and was just nodding off when posty arrived with the bit. Someone more sensible may have slept then fixed the car but i thought what the hay and jumped in to the garage with a brew and a bit of toast, well i do want the car to get to work tonight
The old one (pictured) looked quite different to the new one so lets hope the improved design is better. All codes cleared and test drive complete

You never said what the code was. On a AAN the cam position sensor (CPS) (which is only used by the ECU during start up to provide a signal that the engine is turning over and so the the ECU can safely fire the FP relay), the fault code is 2113.

Not that you want to hear this now but two things:

          1. You do not (at least on an UrS4) have to take the entire front end off to do the CPS. You do need to take enough off so you can get the cam sprocket off (with the cam belt zap-strapped to it so nothing moves). On a S2, there may not be enough clearance to do this trick.

          2. I posted here recently that you (the entire S2 community) can buy just the hall sender portion for less than 10 pounds from a firm in New York city. I did a group buy for my Vancouver BC Canada club and bought 10. With shipping included they were CDN$12.13 each (about 5 pounds). I suggested somebody on the S2 forum should do a GB but nobody took it up and the thread died. It should be in the engine forum.

Hope this instigates a GB because the stealership prices are stupid.

As far as i remember it wasn't too bad a job, stripped the bumper, intercooler, frontpanel off and loosened the front x member bolts so it slid away from the chassis. Then undid the cam pulley and slid it off, think i loosened the cambelt tensioner too. Was careful not to move anything and should have locked the engine with some special tool but got away with it.

Once that is off the sensor just unplugs and you unscrew it, think you have to undo the ps pump mount cos the wiring loom goes under it too.

Then refit and everything is rosey once again
