Sounds for me like a boost leak . Try to search this forum for these two words.

If you have a violent missfire like throw you thru the windshield, you have a boost leak or a MAF problem, that is called overboost protection, if you have a lighter missfire, could be ignition problem as well.

Have you pressure tested the system?
Also buy the Mark H intercooler mod, more than likely you've got a leaky o ring by default.

The guys are right in saying check these things first, MAF, boost leak (pressure test)
Other than that, my money is on coil pack if it's an ABY... (expensive!)

thanx for all info,an by pressure test do you mean the boost system all hoses involved in that what is the best way of testing this as i do not have a gauge in the car if it is the coil will it bring up a noticeable fault code chees

Disconnect the battery, check www.s2central.net it's got all the relevant details regarding codes and reseting.

Pull the 2 fuses which are joined together with 'motor' marked on them for 2 mins.

It sounds like the common boost leak problem, the temp sender will just give low boost on a 3b. You need to pressure test the intake system, search the forum for this. Loads of info on it. If the cut out is that violent then it "probably" isnt a misfire as such. Does the car feel very slow too? and heavy on fuel??
