    Vag com fault code 65535 - S2 3B

    Hi
Have pulled fault codes with Vag com and this one came up:

    1 Fault Found:

65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error

    00-00 - -

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
have searched the Ross-tech site, all I found was some problem the regarding airbag controller.

The car is a 3B (no airbag obviously), and the code comes each time I restart the engine. Does this code mean my ECU is damaged? Or is it normal, btw my car is chipped. It's running ok, except for some hesitation now and then.

    Cheers Leif-Helge

Are you sure? Well I guess I could install the original chips and see if the message goes away. If they are crap maybe I will try some MRC chips

Usually result of the checksum not being written correctly in the chips?

Yes. Usualy this error means invalid data in the chips.

But once I saw this error on S2 with dead alternator. The ECU was ok. What is amazing - there was no "voltage too low" error, only blink code 1111 (or 65535 in vag-com terms).

1111 or 65535 means "poor ground connection" as well as "incorrect checksum"...

                Thanks for the answers guys..

                I appreciate it..
The 65535 fault code will not come back after I have cleared it, but maybe the ECU checks it only during startup. The ground connections mentioned, is it more than the two close to the distributor? Those two are ok AFAIK.
The engine has RS2 turbo/exhaust manifold and the chip is supposed to be adapted to this hardware and 250K map. I have a set of MTM chip for standard setup lying around, will install them later and see if the fault code goes away.
                Cheers,
