Hi when i start my s2 up it goes up to about 2000rpm then it goes down to about 800rpm then settles at about 900repm. Problem is (this has only happened twice) when it comes down from the 200rpm it sometimes goes down and then cuts out. Today it done this and when i restarted the car it tried to die on me but i didnt let it. Then after a minute or so it was fine? Any ideas on what this could be? I use the car for short journeys quite a bit could this be causing the problem
cutting out?

possibly a dodgy idle valve, located at the top back of inlet manifold, make sure all wiring connections to it are ok and clean..,would be wise to check for fault codes... -
check all your vacuum/boost hoses to make sure they are tight and check for any splits too, might have one which is on its way outComment

would a split hose cause it to cut just after starting up without even moving? I am having a remapp by mrc tuning next month so they will perform a health check willthis show up any dodgy hoses3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips

Best to get it checked before hand tho. Then you can order up the relevant bits ready for them to fit for you.sigpic

right i thought i would go and have a look at the hoses and the idle valve connections which all seem to be clean and ok. I cannot see any splits or leaks in the hoses although its hard to see. I started the car again the revs went to around 1500rpm (2000 was an exageration) dropped to about 800 (this is the point that it cuts out if it is going to) it then seems to realise the revs have dropped to low and it revs itself to about 1500 then drops to idle at about 900rpm. This time it did not cut out. Is it the idle valve would u say? It has only cut out twice but just worried it will turn into a more serious and frequent problem. thanks for your help3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips

Yeah sounds like the idle valve has clogged up (as they do) just remove it and clean it out with plenty of WD40, shake it out and refit. See if that cures it. My last one suddenly failed on me, was fine one minute, the next day the car just wouldnt idle at all. Had to bin it and get another one (from a cavalier 8v) LMAOsigpic

I've had this too, its really embarrassing at traffic lights when the car starts revving up, people think you want to race ..
Washed the Idle stabilisation valve outy with WD40 and its been fine since, dont be tempted to use brake cleaner or any kind of solvent as this can sometimes spell the end for the device.Comment

Ive had a couple of cut outs recently when pulling up so i was going to check the TPS with a multimeter too incase it is that which is giving duff info rather than the ISV being at fault?Greg
