    3B that needs coil packs!

I have now killed 2 std coils on my 3B running high boost. I know there are "high output" coils out there, but i was thinking of upgrading to the later type coil packs. Now i can get those coils cheap, but they need to be triggered.

I dont want to be changing looms and ECU's as that is too costly.
Fromwhat i can work out, the dizzy's hall sender gives the ECU 5 firing points for the coil. So using the original dizzy and hall sender, would it be possible for it to trigger an individual coil on a specific cylinder.

The car is fine to drive as long as i dont drive using peak torque, which is a nightmare as you need to rev the engine hard Which i never do.

    No.

Get the DF ECU and do the tricks to the harness.

It is tempting to buy an uprated coil. MSD make one IIRC.

I'd say go with a Motorsport spec coil (like a suitable MSD item) - the complexity of upgrading to the DDI (Distributorless Direct Ignition) system is significant and costly but would pale into insigificance if you tried to grow your own 5-coil system.

                      Hi!,
Wasn't Mihnea working on something like that?
Prices of suitable coils have dropped considerably, cheaper than leads.
I know aftermarket Ecus sometimes need the five window dizzy. The problem is going to be determining which coil fires when I guess.

After chatting with Mihnea about changing looms etc etc, its a major ball aching job. ECU isnt a problem. Loom is. Also to fit the thing is a nightmare, dash out etc etc.

It would almost be worth it so Mihnea can give me some sweet flames on gear changes tho :-D

Home-grown system is out of the window. It would be too complex with out much gain.

Well, i spent about 10 mins cleaning the electrodes on the inside of the dizzy cap today and all seems fine. Maybe the coil isnt at fault. The cap is only about 18 months old and so i, once again, thought it would be ok. After spending about 30 mins removing it and replacing it, and only 10 mins cleaning and WD-40ing it. I no longer have the cut out. Im gonna go and get some optimax and try again (as im running on cheapo 95 at the moment, dont tell me off mihnea, im skint), but first impressions were good. 1.8bar at 3600 with no cut out in 4th
