Black grill

There are some pictures of grills about without the chrome strip around the edge and (God Forbid) around the rings.....are these different grills or does the plastic chrome just come off ? The ALL black fronts look meaner IMO.

could be a mixture of both.....just going by images I have seen.....and an S2 grille on ebay without the chrome egding.......but I've definitely seen pics of blacked out rings

I agree carl, especially on an avant. A friend of mine just took his stock front grill to spray shop, the only problem was it had noticable stone chips all over it after a couple of months.

MMmmm...good point Dave, that's why I've thought that maybe the grilles are just different : without the chrome trim

There's a few I've seen on eBay germany, ones with the standard looking slats, standard Audi rings, but with the chrome all in black. IIRC these are manufactured grilles and not painted. Of course there's others available like the Kamei ones without the rings and a black mesh, and the standard looking one with no chrome or rings.
All B4 grilles will fit any of the S2's or RS2 they are all the same shape

No chrome or rings version below, though I personally like them with the rings.

Jas had a standard (loan for rebuild) grille on his with black rings and it wasn't a good look IMO, I too prefer with the rings

There is an option with the dietrich version if you want the rings. On the normal grille the rings badge is attached to the grille onto a raised shaped section which is part of the grille. On the RS2 grille, this shaped raised black section is seperate and can be bought from audi or even better Marty at vagparts, I don't have the part number handy as the FA doesn't list it, but Marty or Alan would know what you are talking about. It may need a bit of retro-fitting to work, but not impossible.

I know nothing compared to some of the guys on here Carl. "MikeS2" is is a veritable minefield of info on all things Audi not just the S2

Too right Mark Just didn't suit the car at all. I quite like the dietrich version, but want to keep the car standard looking. You have no idea of the conflicts going on in my head

You can buy a grille from Audi/Vagparts which is the same as the standard S2 item only with a black frame. The part number is 8G0 853 651 J the standard grille is 8G0 853 651 G.
