It felt like a lifetime, because all I wanted to do was change the fuel filter and winter tyres at the first place...

Happy still that car is ready for summer trips and burnouts. Next MOT time.

Favourite B4 rust spots: After all the under-body fuel lines under those rubber/stainless factory clamps, which are pretty obvious, perhaps less so these Audi 90 B4 Rr Susp Brackets new and old rusty backsides.png
rear suspension brackets can sometimes appear OK but really be done on the back-sides and worse (this one is really rather mild, see at least one horror story at the link it's from below)...

              https://audisrs.com/rear-suspension-...nt-t57489.html

              What I did:
The design intent in having the rear skin on these may be to ensure the four bolts always share the loads well and equally, but because of the close proximity of that large inner bracket surface when installed next to the inner fender shell proper and lack of a weather-seal, it's a great water/grunge trap. Luckily, mine where in really good shape, I re-sprayed them with additional paint (even new ones aren't painted really well), and afterwards liberally with wax/oil and then made 4 thin hard plastic spacers to increase the installed clearance; to encourage drying behind the brackets. The slight changes are accommodated with a re-alignment. That was a decade ago and has worked well.

Check all the drains. One of mines were clogged and I had to weld in a patch

I had the same exact rust hole in my a80. I just widened it with a dremel to get rid of all the rust. Painted it with a epoxy primer and stuck a rubber plug in there.

Same as mine - I did a plug welds for those and left the holes out. The exhaust back muffler heat shield I made from aluminium mesh because I found no better replacement.
