  • Windscreen removal and fitting

Finally got my hands on a heated screen now the nightmare of finding a capable fitter and finding any other parts I might need Anyone got a list and recomendations Screen is in Tamworth so probably best to drive up there and get it done

Contact Russ at Ultimate Windscreens, He did mine 18 months ago and is a craftsman. He even went to the trouble of sealing up the slight area of rust under the windscreen... (You may have to travel to him though)

        Based in Telford?

How long do you have to leave it before driving home?

I drove home after an hour or two. It takes over an hour to put the car back together properly after the windscreen has been fitted...

If you can source them, get new top and bottom trims for the screen. You will likely have some corrosion under the screen at the roof edge. Definitely get this sorted while the screen is out.

These folk used to stock them. They're not showing on their website, but they may be able to get hold of them for you. Worth a try...

The mobile fitter I used last year had seals but they were on a roll. Virtually the only difference between his generic roll of seal and the outgoing audi one was that his had no rigid/shaped core. Once fitted and screen glued in, it is hard to tell otherwise and I cant see a need for it to be rigid as it is stuck to the shell!

I used Midlands autoglass and he was alright but he only had to supply and fit the glass, the car was being resprayed so didn't have to do any dismantling or rebuilding so I can't comment on that aspect.

Do you need to fit it now or could it wait till respray?

Bodyshop won't want to take screen out for fear of breaking it and therefore won't be able to deal with any corrosion revealed when window is removed assuming the window fitter doesnt sort it.

The guy who did mine was fairly local to body shop and was more than happy to drop by one day to remove the screen and then come back when the paint was done to put new one in, I just coveres his extra fuel which I thought is fair enough.

Good point No rush to get it in and the guys who are prepping the car are flexible so will probably wait and tie it all in together
