Can a dealer or locksmith rejig the likes of a new boot/tailgate lock to match existing keys ?
Lock is off a 92... I know the older stuff used to be dealer configurable as I once watched the worlds most useful partsman do this in front of my eyes with a new door lock for an old Typ85.
All old school VAG door locks can be remade to match other keys. For the boot lock you could do with the key that fits it to make dismantling easier. Tumbler kits are silly money for what they are though.
If you have the lock with keys and one of the keys you want it to match I can do it for you or I can send you a small selection of tumblers and springs from my kit so you can have a go yourself.

I seem to have a different problem with my boot locks. When I adjust the boot door spacers (those rubber ones on either side of it) so that the door sits where the inner tail lights (on the door) perfectly align with the outer ones (on the rear fenders) although the right lock fully secures the left one only closes halfway. I tried to adjust the striker but even at the end of its adjustment the left lock will still not reach it so as to fully secure. Even when I tried to force it shut by pushing really hard only the left side of the boot door the lock wouldn't fully secure which to me it shows that the lock sits too far from the strike. Is there any other adjustment that can be made to the lock itself in order to move it a bit closer to the door strike since I cannot seem to be able to do the opposite?

Hi, best to start a new threead as this one is so old.
Anyway..
Are you sure the lights are bolted to the rear quarters and the tailgate correctly?

Sorry I just searched through the technical discussions group and since there was an existing thread covering roughly the subject I was after, I thought I wasn't supposed to create a new one, hence.... it ended up here.
To answer your question the lights are bolted correctly and I can tell because the bodywork aligns too. The car was rear ended sometime in its unknown past and it had been repaired so I suspect this is the reason for the misalignment. Probably the best and simpler solution is as bluequattro suggested. I just thought to check with you guys before I do that in case I was missing something. Thanks both for your help.
