Random thing I noticed. My new screen is in n it's still leaking the same as befor and I noticed this morning that when I put my blowers on after having driven for 5 minutes it then started leaking upon turning them on. I have a strange feeling it could be linked to them but doesn't explain why it leaks down the inside windscreen trim.

Could be coincidence, have you checked the drip tray trim in the sunroof is there? LinkyRandom thing I noticed. Dude you are spot on. After checking just now I can see it's missing. Now 1. Where do I get one from and 2. How do I fit it without breaking everything else?Comment

Water deflector
right, I have it forward but can't work out how to get the thing to attach to the arms on the sunroof, doesn't seem to click in to anything. Any top tips?Paul

It may still be there but detached and be up the back of the slot the sunroof goes back into..
As to fitting it back on I'm not sure as when I was looking it was dark and raining and now I'm away for a week so can't do anything about it
I do know there's a hole in the end of the 2 arms which looks like it should go onto a pin of some sort. There are also 2 clips on the diagram which might be something to do with it.

Done it.......
...kind of. The split on the arm has two kind of cups on the inside which when slotted over the outer edge of the deflector should clip into the hole there. Mine don't click in but they are holding for now but I suspect if there is a frost that they will pop out easily as the deflector sticks in any ice collected.Paul

Any tips on how to spy if it's back there and detached? If not anyone know where I can grab one from?Comment

Oh and Paul let memknow if that fixes your leak as mine seems to be the same as yours by the sounds of itComment

How to find it!
Pop the roof up.
Get a small mirror and a torch.
Sit in the drivers seat, hold mirror such that you look into the cavity the sunroof retracts into and shine the torch in too. If it isn't there you sill see empty space all the way to the back. If it is there it will look like a strip of black plastic near the roof.
To get mine back I cut a couple of lengths of fence wire (you could use wire coat hangers if you have some) created hooks on the end and pushed them back over the top of the plastic strip and hooked them round the bottom edge. I made sure then that they were near the outside on each side then pulled like ******y until it shifted. Think it may have been stuck in the grease.
Once pulled forward you can then try and work out how to connect it to the arms!Paul

Cheers dude. Guess what I'm doing after work this evening? Going to the gym was the wrong answer! Lol!Comment

How did you get on? Was the drip tray back there in the roof or missing like mine?
Thanks to Bertman who let me nick bits off his spare sunroof my avant is now fixed. I went over to his place, got the drip tray and fitted it this evening. It means taking the sunroof panel out, removing the screws on one side and lifting one of the runners so that the drip tray can be hooked into position. The arms just push down and clip on to the ends of the tray. Gave it all a spray with GT85 and its all good

Do you know what, I still haven't done it. Each time I get to the point where I'm going to do it I get asked to do something else and I really need to do it. I got the part number for it but refuse to pay audi prices (£50!) so I did look in a breakers yesterday. If it stays dry today I'm gonna give it a look providing the missus doesn't give me something else to do as I'm getting fed up with small puddles! How easy is it newsh to fix in place properly?Comment
-
Newsh and Paul, I found it! Even better I pulled it forward quite easily and clipped it in with a satisfying click sound and best bit is it only took 15 mins! Let's hope it keeps me dry next time it rains. I will let you know how it goes. If it works I'm gonna take it apart, find something to attach it permanently with and leave it well alone. Next job- make rear wiper work. Wd40 at the ready, will try this job tomorrow

Nice one, I suspect they come off when its below freezng and you open the roof, the tray get frozen to the runners and gets left at the back, either that or the grease on the runners hardens up with age and sticks. I gave the whole lot a spray with GT85.
Another theory we came up with yesterday is that it gets dislodged when you go to Homebase and drive home with a length of wood or copper pipe through the hole
