A quick update, we've decided to replace the tailgate as there is a small amount of rust at the base of the back window. It makes more economic sense to replace it instead of dealing with the rust and getting the original back into nice condition. So I went to the body shop yesterday to drop off the tailgate and some lower door trims. Here's the progress so far, it's in lovely condition under the skin, no previous accident damage which is nice to know, especially as these high speed shopping cars often end up having a brush with the scenery.

The most surprising find so far is what was lurking in the front wings. I knew there was some filler in there from a previous cosmetic repair, but had no idea what we'd find behind the bumper. So happy we'd decided to replace the wings.

Here's the scary bit, what's lurking beneath

Here's some photo's to readdress the balance, all the parts prepped and in primer. The new bumper wasn't finished particularly well, with loads of flash marks on the moulding. These have all been carefully cleaned up and it looks so much better for it.

New wings which now have the repeater hole.

    The Bonnet

Mirrors, bases and the drivers door handle. Anyone else had paint loss from a key miss?

    New tailgate ready for prep

I'm not going to bother with the boot spoiler which it currently has which is made by Zender I think. I'm not keen on sikaflexing stuff on. Is there a better factory solution? I keep hearing about this heck spoiler?

Thanks Tom, I've been reading your build and you're partly to blame for all of this

Getting to the bottom of this tailgate spoiler. Someone mentioned a proper Audi US spec spoiler that mounts properly to the top of the tailgate and bolts on properly. If I'm going to do this I need the bodyshop to drill the holes for the brackets before they do any of the prep so it can all be painted together. If I can't get this sorted properly I'll leave it off all together. Does anyone have a definitive list of parts?

                Lovely car, lovely work.

                Well worth it.

IMHO, skip the spoiler, even though it looks nice, your car is too good to drill holes in or stick stuff on it.

                You're so right.

As mentioned, keep the photos coming for the rest of us to drool over.

Just read your post. You're spot on with the arch liners. The bodyshop also said the wings were not painted particularly well when new and there was zero rust protection from the factory. I guess they don't stand much of a chance really.

Interestingly when we ran the paint depth gauge over the car, we did a side by side comparison with my mates new GT3, both cars identical at 135 microns (bodyshop says that's very thin!). I was fairly convinced my car seen some paint in the past, but the gauge tells different. Turns out all the faults I found are factory features

Does anyone know if Porsche painted the shells at Rossle-Bau or were they painted at Audi and then taken to the Porsche plant?

great work there. I too had both wings replaced. I had them paint them the same number of times inside as out. Its shocking about the rust and unbelievably its still a problem on the B6 a4s.

It's time for an update. After finishing all of the cosmetic work (a little while ago!), it's time for a running gear make over. I've been putting this off while collecting parts and deciding what to fit. I've got everything I need now (I think), so I thought it'd be fun to take this photo before it all ends up on the car, excuse the dust sheets :

It's all brand new nuts, bolts, washers, bushes, springs & dampers, callipers, discs, pretty much everything. You know it's getting serious when TPS send you stack and store boxes full of parts.

Some of the new parts arrived silver, but I wanted them black like the originals, so I've re-painted the drop links, track rod ends, ball joints, ARB brackets. I also re-painted the brake disc hats and stuff.

Very nice bits of kit there.

Can you tell me more about those track rod adjusters, they look unusual.

Looking good!! Did you get all those bits from tps? I gave them a ring and most items I asked for were nla?

How much were the 2 piece rotors?

My rs2 is getting similar treatment soon

                            thanks

Nice thread, you've certainly put some £££ into that little stock pile!

Did the front wings come from TPS? And the tailgate? I'm looking to source a pair of wings (new) and tailgate (new or immaculate used) with a view to getting them fitted next year. Part no's and prices would be helpful

The KWs look like V3s? Just be aware rebound adjust needs a bit of a mod to the rear strut if you want to change it once they're fitted.
