    floorpans, B4 80 saloon

    morning guys,

Just wondering if someone could confirm something for me.

Is the floorpan of the B4 saloon the same between the FWD and Quattro?

meaning, could I put rear diff, prop, etc from a Quattro into my FWD 80 and convert it?

My friend has a written off s4 he's bought for body panels, this leaves everything mechanical available, which he's offered me at mates rates.

    Must admit, I'm tempted!

The car is a daily but I car share so can afford the car to be off the road for a few weeks. Also fairly handy with a set of spanners, I've done a bit of welding before but have mates thats are sh*t hot at it, would get the exhaust's fab'd at a proper exhaust place tho.

Any advice, besides 'don't bother, just 1.8T it'.
I'm also thinking of that too as it's going to be alot easier.

    Cheers,

    Andy

Body is the same for fwd and quattro. There's only 2 threads and few brackets that needs to be welded on from donor car

Its possible. Acidburn did it with his tdi quattro thats now broken.

You need a B4 quattro fueltank too.

You need to find the two mounting holes under the sealent at the back.
Either make or cut the diff bracket off a quattro and remove the spot welds then weld into the new car then do the prop bracket as well.

There is quite a few other little changes, a lot of the mounting studs for shields etc I had to grind off the car.

      ....

b4's are possible to change to quattro but not coupe's as the floor pan is different.

If you want a stock looking car then you would need a quattro b4 fuel tank. The a4/b5 fuel tank will NOT fit as the filler neck is more towards the front of the car than this style car.

You would either need to fab the brackets or cut them out a quattro car for the diff mount and the prop. Then its the usual stuff like the brake lines different and only one going to the rear rather than the two on a fwd, the abs wiring is different as well so i'm putting the complete loom from an s2 avant into the car soon.

Basically I think you will need a s2 avant or b4 quattro , to take bits from to make a b4 quattro... lol

        differences i found was:

you need the bracket welding on at the front to hold the nose of the diff up
        prop brackets
80/s2 quattro fuel tank an s4/a4 one will NOT fit
the mounting holes for the subframe are all there so thats a quick an easy job (edit - there is 2x holes with no thread inside, all me and error404 did was take a subframe bolt and find a decent nut with a shoulder, turn it upside down and insert it into the hole which is already there and weld this in so the subframe can be bolted in)
the abs sensor wires are different but apparently you can cut/solder the two together and make them work
you only have 1x brake line that goes front/back unlike your current setup as it splits on the rear subframe rather than just two lines
        exhaust is different
you have to grind off a couple of old heatshield mounting studs which is a 2 sec job each
at the front there is a bracket for the stock gearbox, this needs cutting out which is not too hard then swap to a 5/6 subframe at the front.

if you need anymore info or parts I have the bracket for the diff already cut out a car, a fuel tank, basically i can have everything to do this conversion quite easily.

if you had access to a ramp/welder and the bits then yes it would be possible.

Either that or you could bolt up the complete rear setup after welding in the diff bracket and run it around for another week as fwd still but with a quattro rear end.

That is what we used initially, but actually afterwards we thought it probably needed reinforcement so we cut it out and drilled a hole in a 3" disc of sheet steel, then welded the nut to that sheet then welded the disc to the chassis

I would be interested to see what reinforcement is inside the chassis box section of a quattro car, as i think there is more to it than just a captive nut on the back

I'm also planning to do this swap later and was wondering what others did to add threads.
