    Exhaust heat shields

Any of you guys ditched the heat shields from the under side of the car?

I've been refurbing my rear subframe and diff and noticed a fair bit of rust hidden away behind the back box shield. The shield itself is also rotten and by the looks of the rust and where it's starting I'm guessing it's a bimetallic reaction between the alu and steel that's causing the corrosion on the car and the shield.
I've sorted all the bodywork and now starting to rebuild so just wondering if it's worth patching up, sourcing new ones or just ditching the heat shield?

    hello Ajax,
I can offer you Nopal Aluminium plates in 1000 x 800 mm plates 0.5mm
    for 50 € plus shipping.
Maybe you like to build the heatshield yourself?

Common place for rust on the coupe. I do run shield on mine, only as I was lucky enough to find one in great condition. Most are rotten to nothing by now. that Nopal stuff looks great Carsten. I think I will use from when I rebuild my ABY
      Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
      Indigo ABY coupé
      Imola B6 S4 Avant

Thanks Carsten that sheet does look good, very similar to the material on newer Audi's.

What would the shipping cost be for 2 sheets to Scotland?

Been toying with the idea of ditching my gearbox one for ages now, drives me nuts rattling away at low revs under load.
Appreciate they are there for a reason but does the box get that hot ?

I'd keep heatshields. I remember our old 1.6 audi 80 which came without and the middle tunnel was always very very hot. So I think they do work

I removed mine from my typ85 90 with aby fitted and my floor gets pretty hot around the bottom of the downpipe to the left of my clutch foot. That wad after some pretty spirited driving mind you.

Will be enough 2 sheets to replace everything under RS2 ?

@Ajax: I send PM to you

@sailaz: for coupe 3 sheets are needed (for my coupe I used 4 sheets, because I cutted one wrong)
I don´t know the underside of an Avant so I cann´t exactly say how many you´ll Need

right now I still have 22 sheets

Hi, I got some Nopal heat shielding from Carsten, got it quickly and the stuff looks good! thanks Carsten!
I will use a bit of it in the engine compartment on my S2, will post pics when done. The rest will be used for my URQ project if I ever get going on it
