thanks for the advice and pictures guys. Rob, that looks like a serious industrial approach Don't think I've ever used one of those to be honest. I'm going to pop off one of my A4 side repeaters later to see what kind of hole is underneath. From memory I think it's almost oblong.

You have a good memory Rob. I had very similar side repeaters on my red 16v coupe years ago. Not a close up but you can see they suit quite well. At least I think they do/did. Incidentally I checked online a while ago but there's no record of it being taxed so it's probably dead now

hehe. Just came across a bunch of old photos when digging up that 16v picture. Apparently I used to like my red coupes

Position on my 2.0 16v coupe shown in photo. horizontal distance edge to centreline = 7.3cm vertical distance from form line to centreline = 4.6 cm. Hope this helps.

Malcolm, that's outstanding mate. And can I just say it's rare that a first post is one giving assistance instead of asking for it?

(If there was a saluting emoji I would have used that)

Haven't done this yet. on another business trip. But I have bought bulb holders and have checked out the fitting of the A4 lenses so I think it looks quite reasonable to fit them into the CQ wings. Might take a bit of faffing about with bent wire to route the wires up the inner wing into the engine bay but probably quite doable. I'm hoping the slight recess of the holes in the A4 wings don't make too much difference. I'll investigate more on Sat morning

                Finally got this done.
bulb holders from a local motor factors fitted a treat

                Made up some wiring

I used my A4 wing to make a cardboard stencil of the hole, laid masking tape on my coupe wing and marked the hole onto that. Then cut out the share from the masking tape.

Then used my dremel to cut most of the hole out. Then shaped it. Cleaned up the edges, applied a couple of coats of primer on the edges, then a couple of coats of paint.

There's a handy gap between the inner and outer wings that worked out well for a thin guide wire.

Then I ran the wiring through the engine bay through to the front indicators.

It was tight for space but I soldered the wires into the existing loom just behind each front indicator and covered the join with heat shrink.

                New bulbs

And after it was all dry I fitted the lenses. I could have done a better job with the holes but as with most things the first time is never one's finest work So I can forgive myself. There's a tiny gap around the edges where each lens slight "proud" of the wing because the A4's hole is slightly recessed but really it's not noticeable.
All in all I'm quite happy with the look. OEM Audi and a bit more modern than the original side repeaters.
Car's bloody filthy though but layers of snow, ice and crap tend to do that.
