  • 80 estate door catch assembly.

Drivers door wont close after I heard a metallic ping/tink noise when opening the door, the "keeper" which sits at the bottom of the door catch is loose so I'm thinking the spring has broken which would normally keep it up. Would I be right in thinking the catch assembly is pressed and riveted together and so replacing just the spring isn't possible?
    New catch assembly required????

    John,

A new catch assembly is probably the easiest route.

I think that'll be the outcome, I haven't removed it from the car yet.

      Thanks Greg.

I think I just swapped the whole lot out the last time, just fiddly connecting the rods.

I had this problem with my coupe a few years ago - I found they get water ingress and then the water freezes inside the lock mechanism and jambs it up.
Probably caused by idiots pouring hot water on the locks & latches when they are frozen
Clean out, re-grease & all good since

Thanks, will get it off the car and have a play with it first, realistically I'll probably take up your offer!

A wee update, removed the assembly and fitted a new spring as per Andy's picture.
Seems to be working for now?!

I've lubed all the others with "chain lube"......you can get the straw into the gaps in the casing and this stuff froths up before settling on what it's around so ideal for this.

                      Cheers all.

I've had this box of springs for ages, at least I can say they've come in handy at last!
