The water drain hose - where does that come out? I wodner if mine might be blocked as recently I've notcied the car steaming up after the aircon has turned off - just wondering if the water vapour that is supposed to have drained out is pooling somewhere?
      Is it easy to check?

        Jamo:

In order to do the retrofit, it may be best to source a 5 cylinder type 89 parts car with the entire system intact - yes, its a lot of work (I'm in the process of repairing the existing A/C in one of my cars, and finding out the hard way that 15 years of Aluminum connected to steel or copper doesn't always come apart easily) - you will want the control head, the wiring harnesses (not just for the cc head - also to the compressor), heater matrix/evaporator, accumulator, condensor, compressor, you will also need the compressor mount for the engine block if your car was never so equipped.

As you can see, there are alot of parts and hard lines involved...
If you can do it yourself, it may be worth the effort, if you have to pay someone, it might cost you half or more the cost of your car

Jamo what's the benefit of going for the ADU conversion over what you've already got?

One of the main reason for removing aircon is to lessen the weight over the front axle, I have removed a lot of these systems from ur's (never removed 1 from an S2 yet) and it never ceases to amaze me how much this stuff weighs, you are looking at adding something like 45kg more weight to the front of the car, so your performance gain will be very limited and your handling will not be the same. Remember that aircon S2's use different springs and engine mounts also.

Right - well seeing as my Kitty is in bits, I best look into getting the rest of the system removed! Already taken off the front end stuff, and yes it is heavy.

Just for the record, the weight of the AC system forward of the firewall is 37 SAE lbs. That's compressor, Accumulator, Condenser and the hard lines, nuts and bolts.

Yes, I have a friend who was crazy enough to do that.

Less weight than most folks think....yes removing the mass of the compressor could improve handling, as it is forward of the front axle ...but's lets be realistic - these cars are primarily sporting cruisers and not all out track cars!

So you're telling me there's 30kg of aircon equipment in the dash? I don't think so.
