I think your problem is that you're trying to use the centre section from an A3 which may be the wrong size and will not fit. We only know that the centre section from an A4/S4 or Passat will fit. Others may but it doesn't look so good for the A3 one. Here is a picture of an A4 centre section which I used. As you can see it's taller so the bracket ends up in the right place.
We use the stock S2/Audi 80 heater matrix/radiator.
AFAIK the A4 heater matrix has shorter pipes so we can't use that but remember all our experience is on RHD cars. It could be that on LHD cars, the S2 and A4 heater matrices are the same.
When retro fitting the digital a/c to a RHD car that never had it from the factory, what you you do about the little missing grilles on the dash and in the two B pillars that are in place on say an urS6 or LHD S2/RS2 with factory digital a/c ?
What is behind these small postage stamp grilles and what is it's function ?
The cabin temp sensor will live behind one or all of these grills. I thought the cabin sensor was in the sunroof control panel on LHD s2./rs2 but i could be wrong.
John has mounted his cabin sensor in the row of dash switches.
I have mounted mine behind the dash just behind the indicator stalk, air is drawn in through a hole that used to house a hazard warning light for the deleted tow bar.
Jamo's temp sensor is tucked behind the dash, invisible style and works fine.
