I just had my RS2 regassed, I went to our local specialist.
He only used the single connection under the rad cover.
Took him 15 mins tops,( i had already filled it with oil as i had fitted a new compressor).
    £60.
He did four whilst i was there! four sets of gear all working at the same time!, its was like a ballet between cars!
    Good game to be in!

Bingo! Like I said, just use the high pressure one by the rad.

It's an expensive game to get in, it cost a fecking fortune to get a machine to regass

AFAIK, all the Audi systems running R134a have the single valve system... Confuses some of the older / traditional AC experts who are used to seeing low-pressure and high-pressure service ports on the system. Some older AC machines will not like this system as they expect to service the system (remove or add gas) on the low pressure port which doesn't exist on our cars (except old R12 based systems).

PS - I forgot to say that I have a number of service leaflets that I got from the USA as part of some Audi aircon training. It was produced when Audi was changing to R134a. If anyone wants one - just send me a PM for my address and you can send a stamped addressed envelope (A4 size).

Its just a piece of card (about half A4 size) with information on both sides about service information etc for the aircon. It also rather handily gives the quantity of refridgerant and oil needed for some Audi models - this is good info for your local AC expert. It does NOT give correct quantity for the Audi 80/S2/RS2 however !

The values below come from the OFRM and are applicable to us -

          **** R134-a refridgerant capacity = 750+50g
Note that an additional 50g is specified if vehicle is fitted with a yellow restrictor. The yellow restrictor has a hole diameter of 1.54mm whereas the non-coloured restrictor has a hole diameter of 1.83mm (now you know).

**** Total quantity of (PAG) oil in system = 250+50cm3
Note that this capacity needs to be adjusted when replacing items such as compressors which are typically filled with the total quantity of oil. AC experts know how to do this !

Does it say what US models this applies to? If a '93-'95 90 are listed those are B4 chassis cars...although I'm sure slightly different from 5-cyl cars.

my a/c was topped up from the port nearest the compressor which my local engineer accessed from underneath the car , as I was reliably informed it is the proper way of doing things:mischeif:

Had mine done yesterday. A lot of mucking around as mine had a low side service port on the bottom of the compressor (Mine was on the change over from R12 to R143), and no one had a suitable adaptor to fit the service port. Had to make up an adaptor and cut an M12x1.00 thread to screw into the compressor, and then braze on bits from an old merc low side port. Now it has the snap on service port.

Air con is very chilly now, hands were hurting on the way home

This is exactly the layout on my car from inspection. Although the Air con bloke (ex Audi) I just spoke to (rec by local GSF - thanks Jamo) pointed out that it is possible to do the re-gas from just the high side. The low side is more important for oiling, rather than gas.

Yeah we were going to do the regas on the high side, but the guy I used didn't have the kit to get the pressure up. He said bottle pressure alone is not enough to fill using the high side. Mine needed oil etc as well...

What model / engine are you interested in ?

The information I have is clear that 5-cyl models are different from V6 and 4-pot engines. I can dig it up for you no problem.

spose that's why the guy I used when i had my R12 3b system regassed with an R134a substitute also used the low side a) cos it had one and b) cos he was adding a pag oil too during the regas

Anyone running an R12 system and hasn't had it regassed, i can recommend one of these drop in replacemet gasses (can't remember the number at the mo, something like RS24 I think...) still was chilly as u like well over a year after being regassed.

steve its £60....its not oem not to have it working if it's fitted

Do you still run yours from time to time, if so you might just need a straight regas as the rubber seals will be lubed from it being run. if not could be a can of worms and ££££££££££

Could be worse... like worms and a can of lube !

My aircon worked for the 2 weeks in 2001 after I bought it... It had just been regassed - so yes I was shafted as an S2 noob in that regard. Six years and counting for me. Pretty sure I'll have the leak in the defacto place for an ABY.

I'll have to get a new reservvoir/drier, that hose with O-rings and a regas to get things back into order - seems really stupid to be carrying around all that extra weight and not use it. Doh
