A lil taster of something I threw together tonight...
Open the ZIP file for a stand-alone Powerpoint show as an HVAC primer.

Obviously this is just one part of the story !

EDIT - You do NOT need MS-Powerpoint to open this... Its self contained !

now that is top notch. Easy to understand, always wondered about the ins and outs of it!! Nice job, bet it took quite a while to do!

I'm still working on the narrative and text to briefly explain the function of each of these major components... That Part 1 just shows the big stuff connected to the a/c plumbing... There are umpteen switches, sensors, actuators & other gubbins associated with the control plane, but we'll get there

Very nice presentation Paul. My system was unable to run as a self contained entity, I had to install ] Powerpoint Viewer 2003 to view it.

Something to add to this after waaay too much spent poring over schematics across the S2/RS2 production. There is slightly different behaviour in how different fans are used when aircon (or climate control) is switched on. I have simplified it down to this.

3B Engined Coupes only - When a/c or climate is turned on:
1 - The cabin fan is forced on at lowest speed (can be overriden by controls to make it blow faster but never stopped)

2 - The radiator fan runs at the 2nd Speed (aka Hi-Speed-1) ALL the time. This is same speed as if radiator thermoswitch F18 activates

3 - In the event that aircon/climate switch F23 activates (very high pressure) then the radiator blows at 3rd Speed (maximum rate)

4 - The maximum radfan speed can also be triggered if radiator thermoswitch F54 is closed

ABY/ADU Engined vehicles - When a/c or climate is turned on
1 - The cabin fan is forced on at lowest speed (can be overriden by controls to make it blow faster but never stopped) - same as 3B

2 - The radiator fan runs at the lowest Speed (aka Lo-Speed) - this is same speed as when afterrun mode is triggered. It is actually the afterrun pump controller that triggers this fan speed as a result of signalling from ECU and aircon/climate system.

3 - In the event that aircon/climate switch F23 activates, the radiator increases to Speed-2

4 - The maximum radfan speed is reserved only for when radiator switch F54 is closed.

Strange but true - according to the schematics at least - anyone care to prove me right or wrong ?

Never spotted this before. Nice animation. Should the refrigerant leaving the condenser not be a sub-cooled liquid though, as opposed to a vapour?
