**** me! got the dash out and seats for good measure. now have a spagetti dash and can't see how to get the matrix out yet. Got a write up from here on dash removal which was really good but all gets a bit vague with no pics for the matrix bit so might try and take a few.
Thank christ i don't need the car for tomorrow, this might take more than one more short days work.

I got to do this soon, I've bypassed the matrix at the moment only warmth comes from the seats
As I understand it the air box unit has to come out so you can remove the matrix from it, apparently there are nuts on the bulkhead engine bay side that have to be undone.
Keep up the good work !

2003 VW T4 long nose X pack, (has become project)
Had a roast dinner and a glass of wine, don't feel so worried now. Will be at work tomorrow but might give it another go in the afternoon. Only prob is i have got to the point where the car will have a ferkin great hole in it if left so need to do it all at once so it doesn't fill up!

Right, got the old one out and the new one in now, looks like the old one went along the bottom. Still got to refit the dash but it got dark again and i am on the drive. Reckon its taken a leisurely 8 hours so far, so maybe 4 to go. I think i could do it in a day now i know but it would be "the" whole day and thats something i never have! Got to regas the ac too cos it isn't possible without releasing the union on the bulkhead, believe me i tried, for ages!
For anyone thinking of doing this i would say, take your time, have prenty of tea, don't panic, and take pictures! If you took this to a garage and they quote 300 that would be well cheap i reckon. Spoke to someone who got quoted 700 for this job. I might even be tempted to do it again for that!!

Would happily give you a hand dude but i am about as south as it gets. East sussex is southeast so good five hours from you i am afraid.
Reckon its not too unrealistic to do it in a weekend as long as you are under cover, have loads of room and don't need to stop to sort out the kids/dog/girlfriend etc! Get the pdf available from here and give it a good read and you are there, good luck
