In answer to the question what processor is used inside the CCU, here is a photo of the inside of a 8D0 820 043 H CCU ex Audi A4 made week 18 1996.

The micro-controller is out of the Intel 80C51 series I think and the ROM is a 27C512.

So what you ask? Well replacing the ROM with an appropriately coded EPROM would allow a wide range of controllers to have the correct software to work in an S2. Just the sort of thing Paul likes to play with

                  Hi all and good 2014!

                  I'm hijaking this thread...

I have a problem with my climatronic:

Starting the car in the morning outside temperature 4 C° (celsius)
Setting the temperature on the Climatronic panel of 22 C°
All goes good and after a couple of minutes it starts to blow nice and hot air
After 15/20 minutes it bolws not freezing air in my feet but not even something that it can be called hot air...
Then for all the journey I must rise the temperature up to 27/28 degrees but if i turn back to anything below that I have cold/poor wrm air coming out from my vents.
Something weird it's that it seems to blow hotter air on the sides dash vents but colder on the central vents.

I checked the diagnostic digital values (outside 4C°) of:

                  #4 G89 and it's 14.7
                  #5 G17 and it's 12.6
                  #6 outside sensor between 6.5/6.00

                  Any clues guys?

                  Thanks a lot in advance

                  Stefano

                    Get vagcom on it.

I stand to be corrected but but the information I have seen regarding the built in diagnostics on the head unit is sketchy at best. I tried to compare the codes on my H suffix controller and nothing matched with the document I had.

Ill see if I can dig the document out for you, you never know

Check and clean your cabin temperature sensor, wherever it is, dashboard, crash panel or roof.

Vacuum out any dust or fluf in there and check the fan associated with it is working to draw air over the temperature sensor using smoke from a candle or cigarette.

                            Thanks guys

I did checked the dash sensor for flow with a cigarette an the fan works.
I will vacuum the grid of the sensor.
Vag com does,nt give any fault regarding the AC system.....
I checked again and if I put air on the dash vents the sides ones are blowing hot air the right more then the left centre one is almost cold.
Could it be some flap blocked or not working properly?

                            Thanks again

                              Update of the problem.

Heater matrix was obstructed on the lower part.
Kind of weird because the cooling circuit it's clean as crystal and cooling liquid it's just nice and red, also heater matrix (Audi original) was changed in 2009, anyway dash out and new matrix and job done.

                              Thanks averyone for the advises.

does it matter if your not running an AC compressor to make this work instead of the old heater blower found in the s2?
