Friend of mine pulled the compressor, condensor, evaporator from his 90q20v 7a motor, which I believe is the same as the 3B S2...he weighed the parts and the came to a total of less than 20kg....which is less than one would expect.

However, the bulk of that weight is ahead of the front axle, so there are still benefits in handling to be gained.....

Lee pulled his Aircon out, I think he said it weighed 18kg.

Thing is, I want aircon! I hate being too hot behind the wheel...

Does anyone have the part number for the 3B aircon compressor, and what other models used the same unit - want to find out if there are any manufactuers who do the same units cheaper than OE.

Here in Madrid the Compressor unit from the ABY is no use. If I use it is one compressor a year (as Audi gives warranty over parts for 1 year) I have manage to break it in around a year so I could get a new swap (I got 3 for free)

Last two years I have not use it so I am sure is going out this summer without warranty.

Wouldn't it be possible to fit a unit from an A3/A4/A6 etc... Any modern one that can cope with the weather and even better not take so much power of the engine?

Pipe reworking is much cheaper for me than 1 compressor a year.

              Petri,

ABY is supposed to have the r134a, correct?
Is this one suppose to be good?
Everytime I turn on the A/C the engine sounds a little "asmatic". When I fit a new compressor it takes 2 weeks before it sounds the same.

Is the Denso replacement better than the OE (I suppose they should have put new technology into it)

              Thanks

                ABY compressor is not Denso.

I'm no A/C expert so can't answer the rest, sorry.
