The electronic clutch is actuated by the non rotating circular part on the end of the pump itself with a single core wire going to it, I guess it simply works using magnetism.

Sorry, missed that! Compressors work full time when the AC's switched on regardless of whether it's empty or not?... Don't they?? When they're empty/low on pressure they just don't cool.

I'm probably missing the point here and should back out of this...

FWIW the high pressure switch triggers the same thing; cuts the clutch relay if the pressure gets too high.
