Mine blows harder in recirc, I'm pretty sure this is because one of the flaps isn't closing properly so in normal mode not all the air is going through the chiller

I can imagine that the condenser position in a 5-pot is not ideal, maybe an extra fan would help. The compressor has more than adequate capacity unless its worn.
If you happen to empty the system in the future, make sure to replace the orifice tube. That thing determines the cooling power of the whole system. If it gets clogged, and they do, it cools like sh*t.
I would also try to measure the air temperature in the middle of the air box. If its cold there, the AC is fine.

But to me, it sound like the air flaps in the heater box aren't sealing properly. All the vents in my car including the footwells blow air of the same temperature.

Not sure about RHD, but on a LHD car, all air goes through the evaporator, no matter where the air comes form.

Totally Agreed,if you're living in Thailand,This became a major problem and one of the thing I hate my UrS6.
on summer or stuck in traffic for a longer period with stock viscous coupling, the A/C clutch will start to engage/disengage
due to the hi pressure exceeded.it's insufficient at the idle.i decided to delete the viscous coupling and put the Spal fan
in.the A/C clutch problem is gone.it's the good way to remedy the symptom. It's not as cold as the w124 Mercedes but yes,i can live with that.
PS. 9/10 UrS6s have the same issue not only mine.

Is this where the recirculating flap resides?

Is it the one seen at the bottom which is operated via a vacuum pipe or the one on the top currently missing that is operated electrically?

Recirculation flap is at the bottom and operated with vacuum. The one thats missing was air flow flap IIRC.

Ok, after a few tests the vacuum valve for the recirc. Wasn't working, and also the actual pump doesn't work either. So I changed the valve but there is no way to replace the pump with the air con in situ

As I'm heading off for some holidays, I'll have the recirculation flap closed mechanically for now and then it may be another dash off for a fix

Maybe you can install an override switch for the radiator fan max power relay. Then you can put it on max power at any time.
But still, it should do that automatically if the pressure in the AC high side gets too high.

I think at first I need to see how the car is with the recirc actually working...!

My A/C fully charged will blow -7 out of the side vent and a little warmer out of the centre

If they get the charging wrong less
